Earlier this month, our community showed up in a BIG way for the third annual St. James 5 Mile Challenge and 5K Fun Run/Walk! 👟💪

828 participants - including Milana’s Crew ❤️ - came together to help build Suffolk County’s first Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Together, we raised more than $123K to support Ronald McDonald House Long Island and help families stay close while their children receive care. 👏

School refusal is a, serious, emotionally driven issue where children and teens experience extreme anxiety about attending school, leading to regular absences or difficulty staying in school.

The good news? Early intervention can make a BIG difference. Through the Stony Brook Medicine's CARE initiative, families and schools are working together to help children gradually and successfully return to the classroom. The earlier we recognize the signs and provide support, the better the outcome for a child’s well-being, education and future.

Today is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, highlighting that positive mental health is essential for a child’s healthy development.

In response to the growing mental health and wellness needs of students across Long Island, Stony Brook Medicine launched the CARE Initiative to help connect schools, families, and students with expert support. Through strategic partnerships and valued collaboration, CARE is helping bring vital resources and specialized care closer to the students who need it most. 💚

During Patient Experience Week, we’re reminded of the trust our healthcare heroes build with patients and families during life’s most difficult moments.

When baby Eric was born with esophageal atresia, his parents were suddenly navigating the unknown - a diagnosis they’d never heard of, a transfer to an unfamiliar hospital, and a mom still recovering who couldn’t be there in person. From the very first phone call, Dr. Calabro made one thing clear: We’ve got him. ❤️
