Stony Brook Oral and Facial Surgery was founded by Dr. Michael Proothi in 2016. Dr. Proothi completed dental school, medical school, general surgery internship, and his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 2010. He built this practice by combining his clinical practice abilities with his strong academic interests. His practice focuses on treatment of medical and dental problems affecting the teeth, jaws, and facial skeleton. Surgical procedures that he performs vary from tooth removal/implant placement to complex reconstructive jaw, face, and TMJ surgery. 👋 Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Nicholas Montanaro, the newest addition to our team!

A proud Long Island native from Farmingdale, Dr. Montanaro brings an impressive background in both dentistry and medicine. He earned his DDS with Distinction in Research from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he also served as class president, and went on to complete his MD at Hofstra University. He recently completed a rigorous 6-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency with Northwell Health, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. Montanaro is passionate about delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, especially for those with complex medical needs. He also plays a key role in shaping future dental professionals as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University.

When he’s not in the OR, you might find him catching up with family and friends, testing out the latest tech, or skiing the slopes! 🎿📱

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Montanaro on board and can’t wait for you to meet him! 💙

Our Oral Surgery Assistants Victoria & Danielle had a great time at the annual meeting this year.

As board members of the AAOMS they had the opportunity to educate attendees about the importance of this certificate for the oral surgery assistant and Oral surgery practices. This certificate provides the knowledge for office based anesthesia for Dental Assistants.

They spoke with prospective candidates, oral surgeons and oral surgery residents about key aspects of being certified & gained helpful feedback from other Surgical Assistants as well.

This patient has 2 maxillary supernummerary teeth 1A & 16A (circled ⭕️)
in addition to 4 wisdom teeth #1,16,17,32 (in yellow)You can also see where the Inferior Alveolar Nerve runs (in green) in close proximity to the wisdom tooth. That nerve provides sensation to teeth, gums, lips and chin.

All teeth were safely extracted!

BILATERAL TJR - NO PROB-Llama🦙

❗️After our patient experienced limited range of motion and the inability to open her mouth for a long period of time she opted for a total joint replacement.
💡 She is now 9 weeks post surgery and has her full range of motion back!

Llama just say you look great! ✨
