Meet Lydia! Lydia has faced more challenges in her young life than most will ever know. Living with sickle cell anemia and HIV, she also lost her hearing, sight, and physical mobility after a severe reaction to quinine medication. Though she miraculously regained her sight and mobility after five years, her hearing loss remained, forcing her to drop out of school.

Now, after two years away from the classroom, Lydia dreams of returning to learn at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf. With sponsorship, Lydia can continue her education, receive daily care, and build a brighter future.

Your support of $38/month can give Lydia the chance she has been waiting for. Visit www.heartsthathear.org to sponsor a child.

Because of Lydia’s situation, we are keeping her identity private from social media. We all know how much we love to see children’s beautiful faces, but we want to give Lydia the privacy and respect she deserves.

Dear Friends of Hearts that Hear,

I want to share a story that has left our team deeply shaken. During the recent school break, a student’s circumstance grew even more dire. With no consistent access to proper care, nutrition, or clean water, she was severely neglected. When she returned to school, it was clear that she needed immediate medical care. This student needs assistance with eating and taking care of her hygiene due to her disability. This was not done for the month-long holiday which left her with injuries and infections in her most vulnerable areas, the result of heartbreaking neglect. Sadly, she is not alone. Each year, children come back from long holidays malnourished, neglected, or sick—but this level of suffering is something we have not seen before.

This is why a safe house for our most vulnerable students on the land we purchased is essential. It will provide children with a secure place to stay during long breaks from school, ensuring they are protected, nourished, and loved. But there is one obstacle we cannot move past: water.

Because of our distance from the lake and the lack of water in the village, we cannot even begin construction until a well is built. Water is the foundation of everything, without it, there is no safe house, no new school, no way to provide consistent care.

This story is a heartbreaking reminder that we cannot wait. Every delay puts children at risk of suffering that no child should endure. By helping us build this well, you are not only giving water, you are giving safety, stability, and hope to children who need it most.

Thank you for standing with us in this urgent moment. Together, we can make sure children have more than survival, they can have a safe and loving place to call home.

Our goal for this project is a minimum of $10,000.

This week is the Global Week of Inclusion! This is a time to celebrate diversity, break down barriers, and create spaces where every child belongs.

For the incredible students at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, inclusion means more than just being seen, it means being heard through sign language, their language, being valued, and being given the same opportunities as their peers.

At Hearts That Hear, inclusion drives so much of what we do. From providing access to education, to supporting Deaf culture and sign language, we are committed to ensuring that Deaf children in Kenya are not left behind, but lifted up.

Together, let’s continue to build a world where Deaf children thrive in strength and in education. 💙🤟🏽

We are incredibly proud of the talented and hardworking students from B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, who are currently participating in the annual regional music performances. These students have already shown outstanding dedication and skill, and they are striving to maintain their championship title and make it to the national stage!

However, as they continue to pursue excellence, they need your help. The cost of attending these performances, including travel and meals, can be a significant burden. Your generous donation can help ensure that these young musicians are able to continue their journey and represent their school with pride.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful impact. By supporting these students, you are not just helping them achieve their dreams — you are also helping to create a more inclusive and empowering environment for them to showcase their incredible talent.

We are deeply grateful for your support, and together, we can cheer them on all the way to nationals!

Thank you for your generosity and encouragement!

One of our most important goals this year is to install solar power at our school in Kenya. This would be transformational for our students — many of whom call the school their home.

With solar energy, we can:
• Power kitchen appliances to safely prepare meals
• Store medications at proper temperatures
• Light up classrooms and dorms at night for safety and security
• Deter theft and protect the children
• Bring in technology to enhance learning for our Deaf students

💡 The total cost of the solar installation is $5,000 — and it will change countless lives.

We need your help to make it happen.
Please consider giving toward this life-changing project.

Together, we can create a safe, bright, and empowered future for these incredible children.

Did you know?

📚 1 in 4 girls in Kenya does not complete primary school.
🚫 Only 5% of girls with disabilities in Kenya have access to quality education.
💔 Girls with disabilities are more likely to be isolated, experience abuse, and remain in poverty without education and support.

At Hearts that Hear, we see this reality every day — and we’re doing something about it.

We work directly with B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf in Kenya, where many incredible girls are still waiting for a sponsor — some for nearly two years. These girls are smart, joyful, and full of potential. But without support, they cannot afford basic needs like school fees, meals, uniforms, and safe housing.

Sponsoring a girl’s education is more than giving money. It means giving her a voice, a language, a future, and the belief that she matters. For just $38 a month, you can make a difference.

We are beyond thrilled to share the incredible story of Jeff and Marie from California, who recently had the unforgettable opportunity to meet their sponsor child, Clinton Victor, at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf in Kenya.

Meeting your sponsor child isn’t just a visit—it’s a life-changing experience for everyone involved. Jeff and Marie didn’t just meet Clinton; they connected with him in his language—sign language. That moment of shared understanding lit up the entire school.

They spent the day talking with students, sharing encouragement, and showing what’s possible when someone believes in you. For Deaf children who rarely see adults who share their language and experience, meeting Deaf role models—and sponsors who take the time to communicate—opens a whole new world of possibility.

Clinton Victor was overjoyed to spend time with his sponsors, share a meal, and express how their support is transforming his life and future.

Thank you, Jeff and Marie, for your love, your presence, and for showing these children how far they can go. You’ve changed Clinton’s life—and inspired many more.
