This week is the Global Week of Inclusion! This is a time to celebrate diversity, break down barriers, and create spaces where every child belongs.

For the incredible students at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, inclusion means more than just being seen, it means being heard through sign language, their language, being valued, and being given the same opportunities as their peers.

At Hearts That Hear, inclusion drives so much of what we do. From providing access to education, to supporting Deaf culture and sign language, we are committed to ensuring that Deaf children in Kenya are not left behind, but lifted up.

We are incredibly proud of the talented and hardworking students from B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, who are currently participating in the annual regional music performances. These students have already shown outstanding dedication and skill, and they are striving to maintain their championship title and make it to the national stage!

However, as they continue to pursue excellence, they need your help. The cost of attending these performances, including travel and meals, can be a significant burden. One of our most important goals this year is to install solar power at our school in Kenya. This would be transformational for our students — many of whom call the school their home.

With solar energy, we can:
• Power kitchen appliances to safely prepare meals
• Store medications at proper temperatures
• Light up classrooms and dorms at night for safety and security

• Bring in technology to enhance learning for our Deaf students

We are beyond thrilled to share the incredible story of Jeff and Marie from California, who recently had the unforgettable opportunity to meet their sponsor child, Clinton Victor, at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf in Kenya.

Meeting your sponsor child isn’t just a visit—it’s a life-changing experience for everyone involved. Jeff and Marie didn’t just meet Clinton; they connected with him in his language—sign language. That moment of shared understanding lit up the entire school.

They spent the day talking with students, sharing encouragement, and showing what’s possible when someone believes in you. We’re so proud of the students from the B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf! They recently competed in a signing and performance competition with other area Deaf schools. We cannot say thank you enough to all the people who have donated in the memory of Charles M. Reisinger. His daughter, Marcy Carlene is the founder of our organization and was inspired to start this mission because of her amazing parents, Charles and Fern Reisinger. Charlie spent a majority of his life advocating for Deaf rights through his representation at the Connecticut Association of the Deaf and the National Association of the Deaf - NAD. We are so thankful his advocacy and memory will live on through Hearts that Hear and will change the lives of Deaf children in Kenya. We want to share a more detailed update on the heartbreaking break-in at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf.

The damage was extensive:
• Ten tablets were stolen
• All the sanitary materials and food supplies—including sugar, milk, rice, cooking oil, and wheat flour—were taken
• Utensils from the kitchen, including plates, cups, flasks, and jugs, were also stolen
• Thieves cut through the iron sheet roofing of the office, and now repairs are urgently needed

To prevent this from happening again, the school must replace the roofing with a reinforced barrier of iron sheets and strong wood, forming a protective layer. The school compound is also in urgent need of approximately six new solar floodlights to illuminate dark areas near the dormitories and toilets. Currently, it is completely dark at night, creating fear and vulnerability for students and staff.

The community is left shaken and uncertain—but not alone. We are working with school leadership to support immediate recovery and long-term safety.
