A mother who lives near our Hearts that Hear land has reached out in deep distress. She has just given birth to a baby boy — her first after seven daughters. This long-awaited child was born with spina bifida and needs immediate surgery at Kijabe Hospital.

The cost for this first of many hospitalizations is 37,000 KES (around $300 USD), but the family is still short 15,000 KES (about $100 USD). The mother is devastated and doing everything she can to give her newborn the chance to live and grow strong.

Your support could mean the difference between despair and hope for this family. Any amount you give will help this baby reach the hospital and begin the critical care he needs.

Lydia is still searching for a sponsor. Can you change her life and ensure she gets an education? 🤟

Meet Lydia! Lydia has faced more challenges in her young life than most will ever know. Living with sickle cell anemia and HIV, she also lost her hearing, sight, and physical mobility after a severe reaction to quinine medication. Though she miraculously regained her sight and mobility after five years, her hearing loss remained, forcing her to drop out of school.

Now, after two years away from the classroom, Lydia dreams of returning to learn at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf. With sponsorship, Lydia can continue her education, receive daily care, and build a brighter future.

Your support of $38/month can give Lydia the chance she has been waiting for. Visit www.heartsthathear.org to sponsor a child.

Because of Lydia’s situation, we are keeping her identity private from social media. We all know how much we love to see children’s beautiful faces, but we want to give Lydia the privacy and respect she deserves.

Everlyn was married at just fifteen. Soon after, she became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter, Lucy. Before that, she had been a bright student at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, a place where she had found friendship and the joy of learning.

When Everlyn didn’t return to school after a long break, staff members began to worry. After searching, they learned of her desperate situation. Everlyn had become a child bride, struggling to care for her baby and survive.

Thanks to the compassionate efforts of the school staff, Everlyn and her daughter were brought back to the school, offering a safe place to stay and the chance for Everlyn to continue her education.

But soon, the school will close for a two-month holiday break. And for Everlyn, Lucy, and others like them, that means uncertainty and danger once again.

This is why a Safe House is urgently needed, a refuge where vulnerable students can stay during school breaks, protected and supported as they continue their journey toward education and independence.

Our first step in building that Safe House is simple but vital: a well.
Before we can build, we must have water.

Every drop brings us closer to safety, dignity, and hope for girls like Everlyn and for little Lucy, growing up in a world that finally gives her mother a second chance. You can donate at www.heartsthathear.org

Every child deserves a place where they feel secure, supported, and valued, yet for many, that space doesn’t exist. A safe house is more than shelter—it provides refuge from fear, a space where voices are heard, a foundation for education, and a community of care that restores dignity and hope. When children know they are safe, they can dream bigger, learn freely, and begin to heal. Help us create that space by visiting www.heartsthathear.org to donate.

The last term of the school year is here at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf! Our students are learning, growing, and preparing for exams with so much determination and joy.

As the long two-month holiday approaches, we are reminded of how important it is to ensure our children always have a safe and supportive place to stay. That’s why our fundraising for the safe house well is so vital. This safe house will provide safety and stability during the holidays.

Every gift brings us closer to this goal. Thank you for believing in these incredible students and their bright futures!

Dear Friends of Hearts that Hear,

I want to share a story that has left our team deeply shaken. During the recent school break, a student’s circumstance grew even more dire. With no consistent access to proper care, nutrition, or clean water, she was severely neglected. When she returned to school, it was clear that she needed immediate medical care. This student needs assistance with eating and taking care of her hygiene due to her disability. This was not done for the month-long holiday which left her with injuries and infections in her most vulnerable areas, the result of heartbreaking neglect. Sadly, she is not alone. Each year, children come back from long holidays malnourished, neglected, or sick—but this level of suffering is something we have not seen before.

This is why a safe house for our most vulnerable students on the land we purchased is essential. It will provide children with a secure place to stay during long breaks from school, ensuring they are protected, nourished, and loved. But there is one obstacle we cannot move past: water.

Because of our distance from the lake and the lack of water in the village, we cannot even begin construction until a well is built. Water is the foundation of everything, without it, there is no safe house, no new school, no way to provide consistent care.

This story is a heartbreaking reminder that we cannot wait. Every delay puts children at risk of suffering that no child should endure. By helping us build this well, you are not only giving water, you are giving safety, stability, and hope to children who need it most.

Thank you for standing with us in this urgent moment. Together, we can make sure children have more than survival, they can have a safe and loving place to call home.

Our goal for this project is a minimum of $10,000.
