We bid Farewell to one of the first pioneers, the building contractor & one the oldest living members of the Stony Creek VRS, Mr. James Otha Shands (July 2, 1925 - June 25, 2025)! Just 7 days shy of his 100th Birthday, our Heavenly Father called him home to Glory! Though his days of volunteering were over, he was still concerned & often asked "how's the squad doing" or "are you & your husband still hanging in there"? Mr. Shands life hasn't always been thornless nor full of wealth but I know it has been Blessed because when God allows you more than is written in his word then that surely speaks volumes! Now the time has come for you to take REST from these troublesome earthly encounters, nothing but smooth sailing from here! Your spirit, your wisdom & your legacy are all gathered in our memories and we will continue to uphold the purpose of what you and your fellow pioneers created in 1969! RIP

Last night it all started around 10:17, a 911call for help! To those 1st Responders you were AMAZING! It shows in so many ways what the definition of TEAMWORK truly means! When you can forget the Differences & make a Difference! I think we even forgot about how COLD it was but for some families it was colder & we all know why! We conquered obstacles that we encountered: language barriers, unforeseen tragedies, injuries & emotional distress & we did it collaboratively & collectively, that's -Teamwork! I saw new faces, even people I hadn't seen in awhile which showed dedication! While trying to provide comfort to a family & being hugged so tightly, a voice spoke "pray for me please"! This 1st Responder journey is to Provide & that's what I did, TYG! From SC to RVA we made it happen! To all of you who were there, just know YOU ARE APPRECIATED! We all have so much to be Thankful for! GOD is our STRENGTH!

February 21,2023 was bitter sweet yet amazing because the Stony Creek Volunteer Rescue Squad sent off one of its retired Ambulances ( #340)as a donation to Ukraine! We felt that since GOD has allowed us to be BLESSED by others in so many ways we would play it forward to be a BLESSING to someone else! We remembered when another agency (Surry Power Plant) decided to make SCVRS a proud recipient of an ambulance! (See it pays to know the inside story sometimes)! Not only were we able to donate an ambulance but a stretcher, backboards & other medical supplies that could no longer be of service to us. Today 340 is in Fredericksburg, VA going to MD then onto a cargo ship across the Atlantic Ocean (2 weeks), then Poland & lastly to its new home in the Ukraine! Special thanks to the Sussex County BOS who accepted our pledge to make this donation possible!
