Serenity Spotlight 🔦
My name is John King, and I am a chaplain with Serenity Hospice.
I was ordained to ministry in 1988 and have served in a variety of ministry settings over the years. For ten years I lived in El Salvador, where I became bilingual and learned how deeply culture, faith, and family shape the way people face suffering and hope. Over time, my ministry has led me to hospice care — a place where compassion matters more than answers.
Hospice is deeply personal for me. My mother lived with dementia in her final years, and my father received hospice care in his last weeks. I experienced firsthand how essential it is to care for the whole family — to offer kindness and dignity when life feels fragile.
As a chaplain, I meet patients where they are. I love working with people from many religious backgrounds — Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, and those with no faith tradition. My role is not to impose belief, but to listen, to explore meaning, and to help create peace. Each life carries a story, and each story deserves respect and individualized care.
It is a privilege to walk alongside patients and families during this season of life. Hospice teaches me to focus on what truly matters, to prioritize kindness. I am grateful to be part of a team that honors diversity and treats every person with compassion and dignity.
