I've had this page for a while now, but recently realized I have never made an introduction.
Hi there! My name is Mika (pronounced Micah), and I'm a massage therapist.
I grew up raising animals, mending fences, and running equipment. I shadowed my father, a career carpenter, as he taught me the true cost (and wealth) of providing for a family with your time and skills.
I graduated from Fairfield, Texas High School in 2012 and graduated from Navarro College with an Associate of Arts (General Studies) in 2016 with hopes to transfer into a nursing program when it became convenient. I spent 8 years working in different types of direct client care - a CNA in nursing homes, state-supported living centers, and community integration centers for intellectually disabled individuals.
In that time, I met my husband, Patrick Sanders, and we've been together for going on 13 years. He brought to me two bonus sons and in 2019 we had our first daughter. A few months later, I tried to go to nursing school. To anyone who has survived nursing school with children at home, I have a deep respect and admiration for you. November of '21 brought our second daughter and six months later the somewhat sudden passing of my father.
His passing was a catalyst for me to return to school - to make a change, something where I can still contribute to the care of our family, while being flexible, still being as available as he was. Still caring for people like I have been for over a decade.
I believe that money isn't the only currency, and I believe that plenty of people who can't "afford" massage, really do need massage.
It is often seen as a luxury, but at its creation, massage was medicine - a way for the body to find its own healing. (That's a whole soap box for another time.)
While this is a tiny excerpt of my life, my main message is "Hello, I'm here for you."
I'm here to share the fantastic benefits of relief and peace through massage therapy. Barter optional.
