Speak Life End Bullying

Speak Life End Bullying Speak Life The Musical follows a day in the life of four high school students giving us a glimpse into their public personas and private struggles.

Speak Life End Bullying is a suite of resources designed to aid schools, families, communities, and faith-based organizations in combating bullying and strengthening mental health resiliency for our students. Things are not always as they seem. The fight up the social ladder is brutal. Too many are crushed, broken, forgotten. This life changing musical gives a voice to the silent outcast, challenging everyone to STAND, SPEAK and DEFEND. One voice can create change!

Healing from bullying can start with one powerful shift.

At Millennium 6–12 Collegiate Academy, one student shared how she connected to both Bri and Daniel. She had walked the hard journey through her parents’ divorce and also knew what it felt like to be bullied.

✨ When asked what helped her through those seasons, her answer was simple: she tried to change her thoughts.

It didn’t erase what happened, and she wasn’t pretending it didn’t hurt. But she shifted what she focused on and it helped her move in a more positive direction.

Here are a few small mindset shifts we can pass on to our teens as they walk through challenging days:

• This moment won’t last forever
• What someone said about me does not define me
• I’m not the only one going through this
• I can choose one small thought that brings me joy instead of hurts

They’re simple shifts, but when our teens are in the middle of something heavy, they matter.

💬 What’s one thought that’s helped you through a hard season?

Yesterday was a milestone moment as Justin Simmons announced his retirement. 🏈

In 2020, we sat down for a simple dinner at a small bistro that changed the future of Speak Life.

What started as a shared heart for at-risk students turned into a partnership that helped Speak Life move from a stage presentation to a film, lesson plans, and a catalog of resources. Since that day, Speak Life has reached nearly 100,000 more students and families across South Florida, Colorado, and beyond.

Justin and Taryn have partnered with us through their resources, time, and by using their voices to 10X the mission of Speak Life. Justin has joined us in schools, sharing his story with students. He has hosted our golf tournaments, private screenings, and Boys & Girls Club events. Taryn has made these moments possible as a trusted board member and friend. 🤝

One recent moment that stood out was when Justin shared with our golf participants about his heart for the mission. He recounted a student he met at a school event who was struggling deeply with mental health challenges. Justin sat, listened, encouraged and was deeply moved by the conversation. As he told the story, his eyes filled with tears.

That is Justin Simmons.
That is his heart.
That is who he is.

Justin and Taryn’s partnership has meant that student lives have been saved. Plain and simple. Their influence has allowed the mission and impact of Speak Life to grow, creating a culture shift in schools that has only just begun.

As we reflect on his career, one thing we know is true… We have never met a man like Justin Simmons.

💪 He is a man of strong character, seen in everything he does.
💪 He doesn’t just talk about impact, he creates it.
💪 He uses his influence to create real change for at-risk students.

He is truly the best of the BEST.

Congratulations, Justin, on an incredible career!! 🏈 We are honored to stand with you, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

🔥Now let’s go impact thousands more students together.

When students see themselves through the characters in the film…something shifts.

🫶🏻 Their walls come down a bit. They start to say things they have struggled to put into words before and it gives us a more honest look at what some students are quietly carrying.

At a recent Speak Life Q&A session following the film assembly at Charles W. Flanagan High School, one student shared how she connected with Daniel, because she’s lived it. 🥹

She talked about being bullied by people she once saw as her peers, and how even now, there are parts of that pain she’s still working through.

What stood out most, though, was what helped her start moving forward.

🥰 She mentioned friends who showed up for her, who reminded her she wasn’t alone. And she found something that was hers: joining choir, building confidence, and slowly starting to feel more secure in who she is.

That’s the part we never want to miss.

✨ Because when students are given space to talk through their experiences, like in our live Q&A’s, you can see it happening in real time. They begin to process what they’ve been through and recognize they’re not the only ones walking through something hard.

And often, knowing they are not alone opens the door to sharing their story and that’s where the real change begins.

It’s hard when our teens stop telling us everything.

When we’re no longer the first call…
when the conversations get shorter…
when you can feel the distance, even if nothing “big” has happened.

It can quietly make you wonder…
Did something change?
Am I doing something wrong?

But most of the time, the connection isn’t broken.
It’s shifting.

And what they need from us in this season looks different than it used to.

Not bigger talks.
Not trying to force it back to how it was.

Just small, consistent moments that remind them…
“I’m still here. I still care. You can still come to me.”

Here are a few ways to step into that this week:

✨ Phone-free moments
Sit together. Go for a drive. Laugh over something simple. No distractions, just presence.

✨ Step into their world
Watch what they’re watching. Listen to what they’re into. Even if it’s not your thing, it becomes your thing because it matters to them.

✨ Be ready in the margins
It’s not always on your timeline. It’s the late-night “Can I tell you something?” or the random moment in passing. Those are the openings. Those are the moments that build trust.

You’re not losing them.
You’re learning a new way to reach them.

Try one small connection moment this week.
It matters more than you think… even if they don’t say it out loud. 🤍

40.2%.

That’s not just a number.
That’s our teens.

It’s the quiet “I’m fine” when they’re not.
The long sighs behind closed doors.
The pressure they carry that we don’t always see… but we feel.

Schedules. Expectations. Friend dynamics.
The constant noise of comparison.
And underneath it all… a weight they don’t always have the words for. 💔

And as moms, we feel it too. 😅

We want to help.
We want to reach them.
We just don’t always know how to create a safe place where they feel they can fully open up.

▶️ What if I told you it can be as simple as pressing PLAY?

Speak Life End Bullying doesn’t just talk about bullying, it helps students recognize what’s going on beneath the surface and makes them feel seen and heard through the many characters and moments in the film.

If you have that sense that something is not ok with your teen, this is the resource that will create that safe space they need. 🫂

You are not alone. And neither are they.

There’s something powerful about creating space for the right conversations in schools and community programs.

At Glades Middle School, we worked with over 100 students across three peer counseling classes, using three of our Speak Life resiliency lesson plans. We used our guided, structured curriculum designed to help students engage with real topics like vulnerability, peer pressure, stress, and standing up for others.

✨ Speak Life offers a full lesson plan library including 23 lesson plans approved by the Florida Department of Education, meeting the 5 required resiliency education hours. These lesson plans help schools carry the Speak Life End Bullying message beyond a single assembly and into the everyday classroom culture.

🤝 Our lesson plans are intentionally built to be easy for teachers to implement. There’s no prep, simple to follow, and designed to walk students through meaningful discussion, journaling, and reflection. The goal is to create a safe space where students can process what they’re experiencing and realize they’re not the only ones navigating through these difficult topics.

We’re so grateful for our time at Glades Middle School because of the way students engaged with the curriculum and the depth of conversation it created in the classroom.

This is what happens when we stop standing by and start speaking life…✨

At Walter C. Young Middle School, one student shared that she connects most with the background characters in the film. They are the students who represent the bystanders.

👉 Often a bystander would say that they don’t really get bullied and they are not the one bullying someone else, but they find themselves standing by…not knowing how to intervene. And that’s where 60% of students say they fit, right in that in-between space, seeing what’s happening and not always knowing how to make a difference.

Here is the truth…bystanders hold the power to make the greatest impact on bullying.

🤝 And it’s not the big gestures that change things. It’s the simple actions that truly make a difference. When a student can say, “We don’t do that.” Or they can step in, shift the moment, or quietly pull someone out of a situation and say, “Come sit with me.”

Small things.
Simple actions.
They can change a life.

Because when no one steps in, that moment of hurt continues and often the bullying repeats. But when someone steps up, even in a quiet way, it changes things for that one student. It often ends the bullying for good.

That’s the power of speaking life.

❤️ If you’ve ever found yourself in that middle space, don’t underestimate your power. That’s the place where you can step in to change someone’s day in a way they will never forget.

Friendships never feel more complicated than in middle and high school. 😅

Sometimes our teens don’t even tell us they’re struggling… but you can see it.

🤔 A friend’s name stops coming up. They seem drained after spending time together, or suddenly don’t want to go somewhere they used to enjoy. Maybe they’re overthinking texts, second guessing themselves, or brushing things off with “it’s fine” when you can tell it’s not.

And when they do open up, their pain can feel so real that everything in us wants to fix it. We want to give the right advice and help them feel better right away.

But if we rush to fix it, we can miss the chance to help them build something deeper.

Sometimes what they need most is space to slow down and process what’s going on… so they learn to move forward with wisdom and confidence.

A few simple questions can help open that door:

❤️ “Do you feel like you can be yourself around them?”
❤️ “How do you feel after you spend time with them?”
❤️ “Do they treat you differently when other people are around?”

Over time, those conversations help them notice patterns instead of reacting to one moment at a time.

And that’s where discernment begins.

If your teen is in the middle of something like this, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Follow along for more conversations like this. 💕

A teacher shared some feedback she received from one of her students after a recent Speak Life Event Day, and it was so kind and heartfelt. It captured exactly what we hope happens after our program.

Here’s what the student wrote ✍️:

“Hi! I just wanted to say thank you for letting us watch the Speak Life End Bullying movie today. I definitely walked out of the cafeteria feeling a different perspective of things. I really enjoyed watching it! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack too! But I did definitely feel a little connected to some of the things that happened in the movie. I felt like I wasn’t alone in my emotions and I want to thank you for that!”

The impact doesn’t end when the assembly ends.

Students carry this program home with them. ❤️

They feel seen.

They feel understood.

They feel like they are not the only ones walking through hard things.

And this is the part that matters most.

Students choosing, on their own, to stay connected to the message, allowing the impact to continue outside of the assembly and extend into their everyday lives.

🙌 That is why we work everyday to bring this life saving message to more students.

Sometimes it’s the smallest moment that changes everything for a student…

At Nova Middle School, we asked students a simple question: What’s one small moment that changed everything for you? 🤔

One student shared that when he switched schools in fifth grade, he felt so overwhelmed and scared that he cried. He just felt so alone.

But then another student, George, walked up, started talking to him, and included him.

It made all the difference in the world. 🙌

Here’s what students don’t always realize: simple moments like, introducing yourself to someone new, can create real impact.

It doesn’t take a big gesture to change someone’s experience.

Sometimes it looks like noticing the student who’s sitting alone or inviting them into a conversation.

❤️ This is exactly how we are teaching students the simple power they hold to Speak Life.

When students begin to understand they have the ability to change what someone else is experiencing, they begin to see how they can reshape the culture inside their school.

Because the smallest actions can change someone’s day… and sometimes, their entire story.

What’s one small moment that changed everything for you? Drop it in the comments, we’d love to hear. ⬇️
