We know that practicing medicine in and of itself is a risk factor for mental health. Medical students and physicians in residency and practice are at increased risk, not only for su***de, but also for the related factors of burnout and depression. Institutionalized and Internalized stigma plays a major role in physicians reluctance to seek mental health treatment in training and practice. You have people who are very much conditioned during their training to be self-reliant and they fear it says something negative about themselves if they seek care, particularly for their mental health. The American Hospital Association states that the fear of losing medical licensure is a key driver of physician su***de. Physicians have resilience and self reliance in abundance, but when we rely on those traits above all others, we put our own well-being and that of our patients and colleagues at risk.

A reminder this Doctors Day that we must be vigilant for signs of burnout and depression within ourselves and among our colleagues and we must not hesitate to seek help when we recognize something is amiss.

Holistic Mental Health, LLC is dedicated to elevating the health and well-being of physicians and all health care providers. Confidential treatment is available. Do not struggle alone- Make an appointment today.

CAN CELEBRATING ST. PATRICK’S DAY BOOST YOUR HEALTH?

THE SURPRISING BENEFITS OF GOING GREEN
St. Patrick’s Day is a time to celebrate Irish culture, but did you know that “going green” can also benefit your health? From the luck of the Irish to the nutritional power of green foods, here are some ways that celebrating St. Patrick’s Day can help you stay healthy.

GET LUCKY
A positive attitude and good luck may be linked to better health outcomes. One study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that people who believe in luck may have better mental health and experience less stress. So, channel your inner leprechaun and embrace the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day!

GO GREEN
Green is the color of St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s also the color of some of the healthiest foods you can eat. Green vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can promote overall health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Here are some reasons why you should incorporate more green foods into your diet this St. Patrick’s Day:
1. Boosts immunity: Green foods are rich in vitamins A, C, and E, which are essential for a healthy immune system.
2. Promotes healthy digestion: Green foods are high in fiber, which is important for digestive health. A study published in the World of Gastroenterology found that consuming fiber-rich foods can reduce the risk of colon cancer.
3. Lowers inflammation: Green foods contain antioxidants, such as chlorophyll and carotenoids, which can reduce inflammation in the body and prevent chronic diseases, such as cancer and heart disease.
4. Supports healthy weight management: Green foods are low in calories and high in nutrients, making them an ideal choice for weight management. They can also improve satiety and reduce cravings for unhealthy foods.
By celebrating the health benefits of green foods this St. Patrick’s Day, you can improve your well-being and enjoy the festivities at the same time.

GET MOVING
Many St. Patrick’s Day traditions involve physical activity, such as parades, dancing, and games. Physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and improving mental health. So, put on your dancing shoes, or join a parade this St. Patrick’s Day.

By incorporating these tips into your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, you can improve your overall health and well-being. And if you’re looking for personalized psychiatric care consider making an appointment. At Holistic Mental Health, we prioritize accessibility and quality so that our clients get the care they need to live a fuller happier life. So, don your green attire, channel your inner leprechaun, and celebrate the luck of the Irish in a healthy way this year – with the peace of mind that comes from having direct care from Holistic Mental Health at your fingertips.

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an extraordinary American whose legacy as a civil rights leader, activist and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize serves as an inspiration.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” He dreamed of a nation in which every person would be equal, and he devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice and economic opportunity for all. Against what seemed like impossible odds, King and scores of his fellow citizens of all races ensured, in the words of the abolitionist minister Theodore Parker in 1853, that the moral universe, whose “arc is a long one” ultimately “bends toward justice.”

But the work of King – and of so many others who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of justice and equity – is far from complete. As we all know, these are challenging times for our country. We unfortunately are experiencing increasing levels of discord and division, and we continue to see examples every day of injustice and of our fellow citizens being marginalized or made to feel unsafe, even right here in our own community.

The injustices we combat today are the very ones King rallied against more than five decades ago, and as we commemorate his life on Monday, we also remember his challenge to each of us: to recognize the important role we all play in building a more just and equitable society, to actively expose and eliminate racism and hatred in all forms, and to work every day through our words and through our actions to maintain a steady march toward a more perfect union.

As we remember Dr. King on his birthday, let's recommit ourselves to the standard he set, the legacy that lives on, and the challenge that remains.

According to the American Psychological Association, a survey found that 38% of folks felt more stressed during the holiday season, leading to possible issues like physical problems, feeling down, anxiety, and using substances. Things like time crunches, money stress, gift swaps, and family gatherings all played a part.

Even though the holidays are usually about good times and celebrations, they can also stress out many people. Dealing with family, traveling, and gift shopping can mess with your mental health. It's super important to care for yourself and keep your head straight during this time.

Here are some easy ways to look out for your mental health during the holidays:

1. Keep it Real and Set Limits: It's easy to say yes to everything, but knowing your limits and saying no when necessary is a big deal. Having clear boundaries and making time for yourself can cut down on stress and keep you from burning out.
2. Take Care of You: Looking after your mind and body is a must. Get enough sleep, eat well, and do stuff that makes you happy and chill. If things get too much, talk to friends, family, or pros who can help you out.
3. Watch Your Wallet: Money problems can mess with your head. Make a budget and stick to it. That way, you can enjoy the holidays without worrying about cash.
4. Be Kind and Get Support: Keep an eye on your own mental health and look out for others, too. The holidays can be tough for people dealing with loss or other stuff. Being understanding and helping them out can make a real difference.

Even though the holidays are all about fun, they can also be a bit of a mental health challenge. Taking care of yourself, setting limits, keeping an eye on your cash, and supporting others are key to keeping your head in a good place during this time.

And here are three cool tips for staying sane during the holidays:

1. Chill with the Expectations: Don't stress about making everything perfect. Embrace the little mess-ups and enjoy the moments that really matter.
2. Share the Good Vibes: Talk about and relive happy memories with the people you care about. It builds connections and makes the holidays way more awesome.
3. Hang Out with Others: Reach out and connect with your community or friends. Being with others can make you feel like you belong and keep you from feeling alone during the holidays.

Get in that holiday spirit and take care of your mental well-being! 🌟
