We could spend days investigating and critiquing the Law of Attraction. But I would prefer it if we spent our time trying to language and embody a more grounded manifestation approach. Aligning our inner worlds and our thinking with our desires may well have a positive impact on our capacity for manifestation. Yet, I don’t believe that this is always or necessarily true. If it was, then every person who did deep inner work and became positively aligned, would summon positive outcomes. But they don’t. Many become more positive in their thinking, yet their reality remains the same. In some cases, it even gets worse. And many others don’t do a lick of work to overcome their negativity, and they become abundant—at least materially abundant—without even trying. In short, like does not always attract like. Our universe, and our interwoven lives, are much more intricate than that.
Having said that, the idea that there is an interface between our thoughts and a responsive universe is a vast improvement over the belief that we are alone down here, and that no one is ever listening. This was the hopeless perspective that I once carried, and it didn’t serve me. The universe is a vital living organism. There are unseen levels of interconnectedness. We humans are a brilliantly complex network of pulses and charges that transmit signals across the cosmos, no doubt. And the cosmos responds to us. But this is quite a different reality than merely “visualizing and thinking it into being.” It is seldom as simple as asking the universe for what we want and we get it. Too many have followed this approach to transformation and lost their way, making major life changes without the ground to support them. Many of them lost everything while chasing a dream before they had built the necessary foundation to manifest and sustain it. I call this the “Law of No-Traction.” This suggests that without the necessary groundwork—psycho-emotionally, energetically, and practically—to sustain our callings and dreams, they will never gain traction and take full flight. We may get close to them, but they will seldom fully come to fruition. Generally speaking, the LOA is just another cage. Anything that isn’t grounded in reality is a cage—a limiter of our true freedom.
Below are some suggestions on how you can actually improve things in your life. Some grounded and methodical steps to bring your dreams into form. In the coming weeks/months, I encourage you to explore them. Choose one or two areas of your life that you are seeking to improve, and then put them to the (grounded) test:
(1) Clearly and pointedly name the goal that you are wanting to achieve. Don’t be vague or half-hearted. Name it;
(2) Honestly identify the practical aspects of your reality (i.e. financial obstacles, interpersonal issues, physical energy limitations) that need to be transformed/improved upon so that you can step closer to your dream. Form a clear and realistic plan to do so;
(3) Honestly identify any unresolved wounds, troublesome issues or patterns, that may have the effect of undermining your efforts. Form a realistic and sustainable plan to work them through, and to get your inner world patterning energetically aligned with your goal—from the inside-out.
(4) List the precise steps that you will have to take to bring the dream to fruition. Be sure that the steps are realistic with respect to time-frames, financial requirements, and personal support. Be sure that you are truly prepared to make the sacrifice to bring it about. Follow it through.
The trick with manifestation is not to think about it, but just to do it. You can tell everyone your plan, you can ask the Universe to support you, you can even hold a special fire ceremony to usher it into realization... but it won’t mean anything if you don’t ground it in reality. If you have a dream—do it into being.
