Rose, sorry this took so long.
In 2018, Legacy Private Care caregivers were invited in my parent’s home to take care of my dad and assist my mom, Nettie. This began the long-term relationship between my parents, myself, and the wonderful Legacy caregivers and staff.
Today, Legacy continues to provide outstanding care to my mom so that she can remain in her home. These caregivers are the essence and heart of Legacy. Mostly, because they directly care for my mom. They administer meds, put eyedrops in her eyes, provide meals, and keep her house in order. But most of all, they provide companionship so my mom doesn’t get lonely. I also need to acknowledge the importance of Legacy’s support staff, Sarah, Rose, Paris, and others who have helped my mom. Theresa and Mark who know how to put out fires. Theresa, thank you so much for bringing my mom flowers on her birthday. Even though my mom probably doesn’t remember, I do.
My mom has always been independent. She cared for my dad, took care of the finances, a home, and raised three girls. She used to drive me to the barn at 4:30 in the morning to work with the horses because we couldn’t afford to have one. My mom was extremely giving to her family and made many sacrifices to keep them happy. I remember so much about my mom. And I clearly remember when she told me that she never wanted to be put in a nursing home.
At age 86, I understand that my mom needs to be in her own home. You see, my mom has short term memory issues and if put in a facility, my mom would need to be escorted to the bathroom, the dining area, and wouldn’t even know how to turn the television on. I also understand that my mom wouldn’t do well where I love with the snow and cold of Northern New York. So, her caregivers make it possible for my mom to stay in her home. Legacy and her caregivers enable me to keep my mom in her home where she can thrive. With the help of the Amazon Echo which makes facetiming possible and her wonderful caregivers, Patricia and Berlinda, my mom receives the attention and the care she needs.
Patricia is one of the most caring people I have had the pleasure to know. Patricia considers my mom her family and I feel the same about Patricia. She constantly interacts with my mom who is demanding in that respect. She provides yummy meals, and keeps her home clean. She plays cards with my mom even though she tells me my mom always wins. She is kind, reassuring and talkative because my dad is no longer there. I can go on and on about the things she does for my mom and wonderful person Patricia is but there is not enough time in a day.
Berlinda is also a kind, patient, and compassionate caregiver. Her experience with dementia patients make her a perfect match for my mom. She focuses on my mom’s needs and provides excellent care. Even though she’s only been with my mom for a few months, I find her to have a kind spirit, trustworthy, and dependable.
I want to thank the past caregivers who were there for my mom. Carlene, who was the first caregiver, helped me through the loss of my dad and getting the house in order.
Most of all, I want to let both Patricia, Berlinda, know how much I appreciate the care they give my mom. I trust them both explicitly as they are true and unselfish caregivers. More importantly, they take care of my mom in her own home so I can keep my promise to her.
Respectfully,
Jodi, Nettie’s daughter
