With a winter storm in the forecast, we want to help you stay safe and be prepared. A little preparation now can help you stay warm, safe, and stress-free during the storm.
1. Stock Up on Essentials
Make sure you have enough medications, groceries, bottled water, and any personal supplies to last several days in case travel is difficult.
2. Keep Your Home Warm
Set your thermostat to a consistent temperature and close curtains at night to help retain heat. Wear warm layers and keep blankets nearby.
3. Charge Your Devices
Fully charge your phone, tablet, medical devices, and any battery-powered equipment in case of a power outage.
4. Prepare an Emergency Kit
Include a flashlight, extra batteries, a battery-powered radio, non-perishable snacks, bottled water, and a list of important phone numbers.
5. Prevent Slips and Falls
Avoid going outside during the storm if possible. Wear non-slip shoes indoors and use handrails when walking through hallways or common areas.
6. Check in With Loved Ones
Let family or friends know your plans and check in with them when possible for peace of mind.
7. Watch for Warning Signs
Report any issues right away, such as drafts, leaks, unusual noises, or loss of heat, so maintenance can address them quickly.
