During this occupational therapy session, our client participated in meaningful, play-based activities designed to support tolerance to tactile input, emotional regulation, and sustained joint engagement.

Through guided interaction and individualized sensory experiences, we focused on building comfort, confidence, and attention within a supportive environment.

So many big wins today — progress we’re truly proud of!

A little more about our therapist Mikayla!

What’s your team like?
The team at C2K is truly amazing—supportive, collaborative, and genuinely invested in both clients and each other. Everyone brings unique strengths, and there’s always someone ready to step in and help. I felt comfortable from day one, which isn’t always easy to find, and together we work to provide the best care possible while supporting one another along the way.

What is your favorite part about working at C2K?
My favorite part of working at C2K is the supportive team environment and the meaningful relationships built with families and coworkers. I love learning from my colleagues, sharing knowledge, and having fun while helping children build functional skills. The constant teamwork makes the workday both inspiring and enjoyable.

How have you grown professionally since working at C2K?
I started at C2K as a fieldwork student just over a year ago and have since become a licensed therapist. Through hands-on experience and ongoing mentorship, I’ve gained confidence, expanded my clinical skills, and grown more comfortable collaborating with families and coworkers. Being part of such a supportive team has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

Favorite gym item to use during therapy
Swings—always! Platform, hammock, tire, climbing swings—you can’t go wrong. They’re fun, functional, and great for balance, coordination, and regulation.

What’s your most memorable moment at Cater 2 Kids?
One of my most memorable moments was when a non-verbal client began engaging with me after weeks of rapport building. We explored new gym equipment together, and it was a powerful reminder of how therapeutic play and strong relationships can be. It’s those small victories that truly matter and remind me why I love being an occupational therapist.

Meet Mikayla!

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Pomfret, aka the Quiet Corner of Connecticut! I headed a little south for college at Worcester State University, but I’ve always loved being in communities that feel like home.

Tell us a little bit about your family, kids? Significant other? Pets?
I’m super close with my family! That includes my parents, two older brothers, my younger sister,my two sisters-in-law, and my sweet 6-month-old niece who keeps all of us on our toes. Familydefinitely keeps life fun—and a little chaotic in the best way!

Favorite food?
Tough question... my food happy place? A juicy medium-rare cheeseburger in one hand and anything potato-related in the other. Fries, tots, mashed—you can’t go wrong!

Why did you become a therapist?
Honestly, growing up, I always knew I wanted to help others—which might sound
cliché—but becoming an occupational therapist felt like the perfect way to do that. I love helping people build the skills they need to feel confident and independent in their daily lives. I first heard the quote “making doing possible” from a professor when I was exploring colleges, and it has stuck with me ever since. Being able to make a meaningful difference for individuals and their families, while combining creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on support—and working with kids every day—is incredibly rewarding. It’s the perfect job!
