I am constantly amazed with the experiences that nature provides.

We’ve had this lemon tree for several years and while it’s a labor of love, the payback that it gives us is enormous. Because this is a sub tropical plant, it requires that we bring it in every year to protect it from the frost where it lives on our three season porch throughout the winter.

The reward that we get every spring, aside from the sweetest lemons, is that while waiting for the last frost to occur ~ so that we can get the tree back outside into full sunshine ~ a candy scented aroma fills the air once the blooms start to grow and open.

Another awesome experience? Watching the big pot of my favorite flowers start to bud and bloom into the most luxurious and delicious looking flowers 😍



You cannot convince me that, while fully explained by science, these are not also miracles.

Spring doesn’t arrive. It surfaces. Weeks of microbial negotiations, fungal networks, nematodes and beetles and decomposers doing their vital work…

and then one morning the green just shows up like it was never gone.

Before the bloom, there’s the work, and most of it happens where you’ll never see it. The part you can see is the smallest part. The soil has been busy. Mycelium threading through soil, earthworms turning the dark, bacteria and decomposers doing the unglamorous work of breaking last year down into this year’s foundation.

Spring surfaces, the result of a thousand small creatures doing their jobs in the quiet underneath. The part you can see is always the smallest part. Everything green pushing back through right now is just the announcement of what’s already been happening…

Green coming back isn’t magic — it’s just what happens when a million invisible things do their jobs and do it well.

An update from the apothecary ~
It looks like illness has made its way through our whole household, so the shop will be closed this weekend while we all rest and recover.
If all goes well, I’m planning to reopen Wednesday, April 8th, and I truly can’t wait to be back.
Thank you so much for your patience and kindness. It means everything to have such a supportive community around this little shop. 🤍
