Committed to You. 🌿

Thurston Woods Village, a non-for-profit retirement community now serving Sturgis & Coldwater Communities. Mission Statement:
Inspired by our Faith, we are committed to the well-being of all and nurturing a culture that brings hope and a sense of community. Core Values:
Compassion, Faith, Community, Holistic Service, & Stewardship

At Thurston Woods Village, we have an up-to-

date, beautifully maintained facility. The lovely lawns and gardens are well-kept, with areas of park-like quality, reflecting a worthy heritage and reputation. Our community offers an active lifestyle, gracious living, friendships, healthy activities, and security. The history of this beautiful facility began with Alta Schrock, who envisioned a nursing home to be created in an empty building that was owned by Clifford and Alfred Froh. The suggestion was put into the hearts of the Mennonite Board of Missions in Iowa. They purchased the building and 80 acres of land from the Froh brothers for $1. Many volunteers worked on the building and grounds as extensive remodeling was needed to bring the building up to state code. Finally, in 1953, the old Froh Homestead opened its doors as a nursing home accommodating 35 “guests,” with housing room for eight to ten workers. In addition, 460 acres of farmland were rented and worked by volunteer service workers. Eventually, the need outgrew the facility, and in 1968, the home was moved from the U.S. 12 building into Sturgis. Licensed as Froh Community Home, there was room for 66 residents. In 1976, expansion was completed to allow space for 118 residents. In 1985, Thurston Woods Village incorporated and became a retirement community. A 90-unit home for the aged was added, along with a 33-unit, rent-subsidized apartment complex. In response to the need for independent housing with services, the Village Homes duplexes and Gables apartments project started in 2000 and today consists of 6 apartment buildings (36 apartments) and 15 duplex buildings (30 homes), with room for expansion. The most recent improvements and additional services are the complete renovation of Froh Community Home and a new short-stay rehabilitation wing. Today, Thurston Woods Village serves 300 residents at various levels of care, employs 200 plus individuals, and maintains over 25 buildings on more than 100 acres of land. Thurston Woods Village’s unique multi-level living options make it stand out from the crowd. The four different living options are:

• Independent living housing. The Village Homes duplexes and The Gables apartments are set in a quiet, safe neighborhood and offer several financial options, floor plans and services.

• Assisted living at “The Villa” includes 24-hour staffing assistance, three meals a day, medication assistance, housekeeping and laundry service.

• A leader in quality care, Froh Community Home and Rehabilitation is a Five Star skilled care community and has been awarded “One of America’s Top Nursing Homes” for eight consecutive years. The dedicated and skilled clinicians and staff assure your stay with us maximizes your well being and care. Residents enjoy the outstanding activity programs, specialized therapy and restorative service, buffet dining which includes the ability to order meals from menus, and the well known homelike environment. Each semi-private room is equipped with television and a free Wi-Fi service.

• The Short Stay Rehabilitation Department is staffed with highly trained clinicians who are available seven days a week. We pride ourselves with excellent outcomes, resident satisfaction reports, and low average length of stay. Working with the resident and their significant others, the team immediately upon admission formulates discharge plans and goals. A home assessment and a final discharge meeting assure a safe return home with appropriate services.

• HUD housing, known as “The Manor,” must meet HUD income and age guidelines, with rent being based upon income. Thurston Woods Village was founded upon the principal of service and continues this tradition today as a not-for-profit retirement community, associated with Mennonite Health Services. We are also an active member of the community, belonging to several service groups and supporting community events. Stop by Thurston Woods Village or visit our website at www.thurstonwoods.org and see firsthand what we have to offer. At Thurston Woods Village, caring is truly a matter of the heart!

What a wonderful way to start the week! 💛 We were so blessed to welcome Mrs. Miller's class from Eastwood Elementary to our nursing center last Monday for a fun morning of bingo and crafts with our residents. The smiles, laughter, and energy these kids brought through our doors were absolutely priceless.

As this is their last week of school, we want to take a moment to shout out all of the incredible teachers from this year who took time out of their busy schedules to bring their students to visit us. These visits mean more than words can express to our residents and staff. The connections made between young hearts and our residents are truly something special.

Thank you, Mrs. Miller, and every teacher who made it happen this year. You are making a difference not just in your classrooms, but in our community. We will miss you over the summer, and we can't wait to see these amazing kids again soon! 🎉❤️

We came in with big marshmallows, good intentions, and homemade popcorn over a fire. The popcorn didn't make it. The memories? Those are here to stay. 😂

Our campfire and s'mores event this month was everything - live music, marshmallows golden (and occasionally on fire), and a whole lot of laughter shared around the flames.

Watching everyone sing along, swap stories, and get that sticky s'mores grin on their faces reminded us why this village is truly one of a kind. Burnt popcorn and all!

From our village to yours — wishing everyone a safe, sweet, and absolutely wonderful Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇸 Thank you for being the best community we could ever ask for. 🤍

Bethi Lewis & the Electric Pineapple thank you for always putting on a great performance!

We had some very special (and very fluffy) visitors last week! 🐐🦆

Our wonderful social worker pulled off the sweetest surprise - he brought his goats and ducks in to visit our Nursing Center residents, and even caught our Assisted Living residents off guard with the fun! Let's just say nobody was expecting to make friends with a duck on a Thursday.

But here's the thing, moments like these matter deeply. Animals have an incredible ability to lift spirits, calm anxious minds, stir up happy memories, and bring people together in ways that words simply can't. For our elderly residents, that kind of connection is truly priceless.

We believe every resident deserves experiences that bring warmth, laughter, and a little wonder into their days - and we are so proud to have a team dedicated to making that happen. A huge thank you to our social worker for going the extra mile (and hauling farm animals to work 😄) to make this day unforgettable.

This is why we do what we do. 💛

🎭 We're so excited to share a little peek into life at Branches & Meadows!

last week, a group of our Coldwater assisted living residents headed to the stunning Tibbits Opera House to catch "Wonderland!" by Branch County Community Theatre. Safe to say, it did NOT disappoint. The smiles coming home said it all. 🐇✨

For those just getting to know us: Branches & Meadows is our assisted living community in Coldwater, Michigan. We took over the location last year (formerly known as Grand Vista), and we have been on a mission ever since to bring the heart and soul of the Thurston Woods culture to our residents here.

At Thurston Woods, we've always believed that truly great senior living means more than just comfort and care - it means adventures, outings, laughter, and YES, front-row seats to a fantastic show. That's the standard we're bringing to Coldwater, and we couldn't be more excited about it.

We're just getting started. 💛

Guess what our residents were up to yesterday? Baking cookies at Sturgis Middle School! 🍪🎉

Our Willowbrook Memory Care and Villa Assisted Living residents headed over to visit the talented students who run the school's coffee and cookies cart for teachers - and we joined in to make chocolate chunk cookies together! Spoiler: they were delicious.

The smiles, the stories, and the shared joy in that kitchen were absolutely priceless. These kids are something special, and our residents had an absolute blast!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the staff and students who made this day so memorable. Wishing you all a fantastic, fun-filled summer break...you've earned it! ☀️🎒

Thank you to the wonderful students from Mrs. Byler’s class at Eastwood!

Your presence was so energetic, our residents loved every moment of uno with each and every one of you.

Connecting the students in town with our residents is one of my favorite activities to see. The patience these kids have is so heart warming, and our residents light up each time they come.

Have a wonderful last few days of the school year kids!!

We want to take a moment to thank every participant who came out this Saturday for our Spring 5K, and to every Sponsor who helped make it happen!

It was a beautiful day, filled with donuts who were donated by an anonymous donor, and t-shirts designed by BOFA, Inc.

Thank you to Sturgis Bank for being our premier Sponsor. Thank you to Twin Med, R.W. LaPine and Rouch Events & Ministries for being our Community Sponsors. And thank you to Farmers State Bank and OMNI Community Credit Union for being a Supporting Sponsor. Every single one of you made this event possible to raise money for our amazing Benevolent Fund.

We are grateful, we are thankful, and we are surely blessed to be supported by our wonderful community. Our residents thank you.

As the years pass, we see the gentle changes in them - the silver in their hair, the wisdom in their eyes, the softness in their hands. They’ve carried us through every season of life, and now we watch them embrace their own seasons with grace.

No matter our mother's age, or where their children may be, we want to celebrate them in every stage of life. To all of our residents who are mothers, and their loved ones who trust us with their care - Happy Mother's Day! 💐🩷
