Today we remember Sgt. 1st Class Ray Smith, born on this day in 1969. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary actions during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor flag were presented to his family at a White House ceremony by President George W. Bush. His courage, sacrifice, and devotion to his fellow Soldiers will never be forgotten.
