Baptist Health Women’s Clinic-Conway is happy to welcome Danica Ordonez, MD, to their team.

“Women's health care begins with listening and educating about health and wellness,” Dr. Ordonez said “I believe that we must treat each patient as a whole in order to provide the best care. Maternal care begins in pre-conception, and a healthy and informed patient is a good stepping stone for a healthy pregnancy. Once childbearing goals are achieved, I believe that we must continue to listen to and care for our patients as they walk through peri-menopause and menopause.”

Baptist Health recently hosted its inaugural Teacher Externship, a one-day learning experience designed to connect central Arkansas teachers with the world of healthcare. Teachers from Little Rock Southwest High School, North Little Rock High School PTSA, and the North Little Rock Center of Excellence got hands-on experience in simulation labs and learned about workforce trends.

A huge thank you to Baptist Health College Little Rock and all the employees who made this event a success! Together, we're building a stronger bridge between education and healthcare careers.

Peripheral neuropathy takes place when damage is sustained to nerves in the hands and feet. Symptoms may consist of numbness and tingling in the affected limb, weakness, sensitivity to touch, and balance issues. The most common causes of neuropathy include diabetes, traumatic injuries, and infections; it is also possible to sustain neuropathy following certain medication use, such chemotherapy. Whether or not neuropathy is reversible is largely dependent on the root cause. Regardless of cause, physical therapy serves as an effective treatment option for managing neuropathy symptoms and improving quality of life. Focus on treatment might include flexibility training, aerobic conditioning, or balance training. If you are experiencing neuropathy currently, or are struggling with associated weakness and balance, contact your local Baptist Health Therapy Center for help today!

Hip impingement is a change in the shape of the surface of the hip joint that can be caused by an abnormality present at birth or as a result of wear over time. It is most commonly diagnosed in people under 50 and is found in both men and women. There are two types of hip impingement, pincer and cam. Both impingement types cause pain with movement and can eventually result in a tear of the labrum (tissue that lines the rim of the joint), damage to the cartilage of the joint, and bone spurs.

Common symptoms include:

-Groin pain or discomfort in the outside of the hip, thigh, low back, or buttocks. Often called a “C”sign where the the pain is in an area that is marked by placing the hand on the fold at the front and side of the hip in a “C” shape.

-Sharp, stabbing pain with sitting, standing, squatting, jumping and other dynamic “cutting” activities.

-Loss of motion or a stiff feeling when trying to lift or rotate the leg.

-Increased pain after sitting for long periods or leaning forward.

Physical therapists can provide treatment as part of a conservative plan that can reduce overall symptoms and improve both function and quality of life. If surgery is necessary, a physical therapist will be there to provide post surgical care and progress you through a recovery program based on your specific procedure and desired outcomes. If you are having symptoms of a hip impingement or are planning to have surgery, contact your local Baptist Health Therapy clinic to see how they can help!

Manual therapy is when a physical therapist uses specific, skilled, hands on techniques to treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Manual therapy can include joint mobilization, passive range of motion, soft tissue mobilization, manual traction, and deep pressure. Some benefits of manual therapy are reduced pain, restored range of motion, reduced swelling, and improved soft tissue mobility. These manual therapy methods are often used in addition to exercise and stretches to improve a patient’s overall outcomes. If pain and stiffness is making it difficult for you to participate in your normal daily activities, talk to your provider to see if physical therapy with manual interventions is right for you!
