Heart month is great. It’s a month dedicated to raising awareness, sharing knowledge and raising funds for medical research.
But for heart families, every month is heart month. When the calendar turns to March 1st and you go about your daily lives, heart month continues for 2.4 million children and adults living with a CHD. It continues for the families affected by CHD and continues for the parents who have an empty seat at their table because of CHD.
You may think CHDs will never affect you. You may not care about spreading awareness. But I promise you, the day you are told your child or your niece/nephew or your grand baby has something wrong with their heart, you will care. You will research and question why there isn’t a cure. You wonder why there isn’t more funding despite how prevalent and deadly these defects are.
So why not start now? Why not help make a difference today? 1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD so the chances are extremely high you know someone in your inner circle affected by congenital heart defects. The smallest act can make a big difference. Follow a nonprofit. Share a CHD post. Skip your weekly treat and donate $5. Attend an event.
Join our herd.
Because one day, when you are scrolling through social media and you see the face of a heart warrior who made it home, you can say “I was a part of that”. One day when you read an article about the oldest living person with CHDs you can say “I helped make that happen”.
One day when you see on the news that thanks to medical research, there is now a cure giving the 40,000 babies born each year in the US a chance to live, you can say “I made a difference”.
Your support.
Your donation.
Your voice.
You are savings lives.
Together, we are stronger than the storm.
