​​Tips to Protect Your Family & Home

1. Create a disaster supplies kit. Pack essentials and medicines for your family and pets for at least three days and up to two weeks.

2. Make an emergency plan. Consider how you will contact family and create a potential evacuation plan. Cell phones may not work in an emergency and you may struggle to charge them. Keep a written emergency contacts card with you.

3. Manage your documents. Organize, protect and electronically back up important documents so they are safe and available post-disaster.

4. Check your insurance. Get the right insurance coverage, including flood insurance for your home structure and contents. You must have separate flood insurance to be covered for flood damage.

5. Protect your home. Inspect your property and remove hazards such as dead trees or blocked drains. Regularly inspect your roof and keep it in good condition.
