Recently, you may have seen claims online suggesting a link between acetaminophen (Tylenol) use and autism. It’s important to know: legitimate, peer-reviewed scientific studies have not recognized acetaminophen as a causal factor for autism. This is also true of vaccines. Vaccines continue to be safe in preventing many know diseases with no link to autism.

Misinformation can spread quickly, especially when it touches on children’s health. Parents deserve accurate, evidence-based information when making decisions. Before drawing conclusions, always look to credible sources such as peer-reviewed research, pediatric associations, and trusted healthcare providers.

* Stick with science.
* Ask your child’s doctor when you have concerns.
* Take online claims with caution.

Your best resource will always be legitimate, well-conducted scientific studies, not speculation or fear-driven posts.
Let us also respect the role of neurodiversity with regard to autism and other neurodivergent traits. Respecting neurodiversity means valuing autistic voices, honoring differences, and creating spaces where individuals can thrive as they are. True inclusion happens when we embrace—not erase—those differences.

Here's an easy to read summary of what we know:

Suffolk County psychological Association was again a strong presence at the “out of the darkness “Walk for su***de awareness and prevention and I could not be more proud to be surrounded by such amazing colleagues and brave individuals. Once again, SCPA was the top team fundraiser and thank you to everyone who donated to support this very important cause.

It has been a rough week in the news for parents of children going back to school and college. If you need help talking to your children, here are some resources to do so from the American Psychological Association.

Gun violence is a public health epidemic for children, and Donna Thiele Psychological Consulting supports research-backed recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics such as safety regulations and legislation for responsible firearm use and storage.

And if you or your child need support to deal with feelings of anxiety or sadness over world events, contact a psychologist or mental health provider.

Instead of shielding children from the dangers, violence or tragedies around us, adults should talk to kids about what is happening.

Touch that blue blanket you love, breathe in the smell of the water at the lake (or the scent of your clean living room!), and listen to the sounds of the birds at your picnic.
