I’m tremendously proud to have attended the opening ceremonies of Chesapeake Fire Department’s Station 8.

In attendance were three generations of McCoys with ties to the old Station 8, and a potential fourth on the horizon:
• Uncle Luke McCoy – founding member of the Deep Creek Rescue Squad
• My father, Royce McCoy – Deep Creek Volunteer
• Myself – former volunteer at Station 8
• My brother, Ryan McCoy – Former Lieutenant at Station 8
• Uncle Randall McCoy – founding member of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department (deceased)
• Uncle Danny McCoy – volunteer and career firefighter at Station 8 (deceased)
• My nephew, Aiden McCoy – proudly standing as the potential fourth generation to carry on the fire service tradition

To see Station 8 continue its legacy while carrying forward the sacrifices and service of so many who came before us is truly humbling. The McCoy family is honored to have been part of its story — past, present, and, God willing, future.
