We are excited to feature Cheryl DeHaven, CPRS, CPC as a facilitator at the Region 5 RAC Recovery Conference – Bridging the Gap on September 30, 2025 at Hub757 in Suffolk, VA.

✨ Energetic Connections: A Motivational Interviewing Workshop for Peer Recovery Specialists ✨

This interactive workshop invites Peer Recovery Specialists to explore the power of Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a tool for building trust, deepening connection, and supporting self-directed change. Participants will learn core MI concepts through a peer-centered lens, with practical opportunities to recognize conversational roadblocks, reframe responses, and “follow the energy” of readiness. Whether you are new to MI or looking to strengthen your approach, this session offers fresh insight into the conversations that inspire change.

“Cheryl DeHaven, CPRS, CPC is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and Professional Coach with over 40 years of lived experience navigating recovery, resilience, and wellness. Her personal journey has shaped her commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches that honor autonomy, connection, and hope. As founder of WonderousWays, Cheryl develops and facilitates professional development experiences that support the growth of the peer support workforce. She brings a deep appreciation for Motivational Interviewing principles and a passion for exploring how its spirit aligns with peer support values—inviting others to learn alongside her in discovering how respect and curiosity can inspire meaningful change.”

🌟 Workshop Facilitator Spotlight 🌟

We are honored to highlight Rebecca “Becky” Graser, MSW, R-CPRS, Recovery Services Director at Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Behavioral Health, as one of our facilitators for the Region 5 RAC Recovery Conference – Bridging the Gap on September 30th at Hub757 in Suffolk, VA.

“Rebecca ‘Becky’ Graser serves as the Recovery Services Director at Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Behavioral Health (MPNN BH). In this role, she develops and manages Recovery Services programs and budgets; directly and indirectly supervises a team of over 45 individuals in recovery from mental health and substance use challenges; provides strategic guidance to agency leadership on recovery-oriented best practices; facilitates DBHDS Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) trainings; and leads the creation of innovative programs and employment pathways for individuals in recovery.

MPNN’s Recovery Services encompass two peer-run Recovery Resource Centers, a dynamic Recovery Response Team composed of Peer Supporters who respond to individuals in crisis due to addiction-related needs, and Peer Support staff who offer individual and group peer support to those actively engaged in services.

The Recovery Services team works across multiple MPNN BH departments and in collaboration with community partners—including EMS, hospitals, courts, probation and parole, and local jails—playing a vital role in connecting individuals to life-saving recovery resources.

Becky holds a BS from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MSW from the University of New England. Most importantly, she is a person in long-term recovery and is deeply committed to using her lived experience to reduce stigma, advocate for recovery-centered services, and serve as a role model for what is possible in recovery. She has served on the Boards of Directors for NAMI, VOCAL, and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).”

We are excited to feature Mary J. McQuown as one of our incredible facilitators for the Region 5 RAC Recovery Conference – Bridging the Gap on September 30th at Hub757 in Suffolk, VA.
“Mary J. McQuown has over 20 years of experience in the behavioral health field.

Mary lives with mental health challenges and spent more than 15 years as a Virginia behavioral health advocate at the local and state level. She has many years of experience training and supervising peer providers. Mary has a Master of Arts in Management and is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.

As the Recovery Services Workforce Development Coordinator in the Office of Recovery Services, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Mary works to support and build the peer workforce in Virginia. In her free time, Mary enjoys reading, crafts and spending time with her cat, Kauri.”
