World Autism Awareness Day is today, April 2nd. Here are some quick facts about Autism Spectrum Disorder you may not know:
1. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are a complex set of neurological disorders that severely impair social, communicative and cognitive functions
2. Between 30-50% of people with autism have seizures
3. Approximately 1 in 59 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
4. Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls
5. Most children were still being diagnosed after age 4, though autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age 2
5. Minority groups tend to be diagnosed later and less often
6. There is no medical detection for autism
