Sincerely Enter the Source and Request the Awakened One

The Awakened One has the power to see through the mind of each person, perceiving all delusions, illusions, and the capacity of every practitioner.
They adapt the teaching to each moment, breaking delusion and awakening beings, guiding each to the true path.

But if a practitioner does not sincerely enter the Source, does not truly request the Awakened One, then when the Awakened One points and awakens, the practitioner cannot fully receive the power of awakening.
Delusions remain, practice is incomplete, and the path to entering the Source of Awakening is limited.

Therefore, the union of the Awakened One’s guidance and the practitioner’s sincere aspiration is essential, so that the Buddha-nature within each may fully enter the Source of Awakening and shatter the root of delusion.

Sincerely requesting and entering the Source is the first step toward complete awakening.

Dear friends,

Since the day of my awakening, I have never used a system of Buddhist terminology to lead people to Enlightenment.

Why?
Because Enlightenment does not reside in words. Enlightenment is seeing what is already aware, right in your own mind.

Yet people today are accustomed to clinging to words.
If it doesn’t match the scriptures, they doubt.
If it doesn’t use the right terms, they resist.

They are not truly seeking truth. They are seeking reassurance for their ego.
They want to be sure: “This person speaks like Buddhist teachings… so surely they are not an outsider.”

But if reassurance could come simply from Buddhist words, then over the past two thousand years, all humanity would have already awakened.
The scriptures remain.
The books remain.
The words remain.

Yet why does suffering still exist?
Because people read the Dharma, but do not see their Buddha-nature.

This Sunday, the theme of the Dharma talk is:
“Seeing the True Nature – The Path to Ending Birth and Death.”
It is not to give more doctrines. It is so that each person can look directly at themselves:

Here, right now, who is the one listening?

If you see it, the cycle of birth and death comes to an end.
If you do not see it, even if you study the entire Tripitaka, you are still circling in your concepts.

In a world filled with turbulence, we often believe our mission is to change what is outside of us — society, injustice, other people, the system.
But what if the real battlefield is within?

This dialogue is a direct and uncompromising exploration of that question.
A sincere student struggles with pain, anger, duality, and the desire to “fix” the world.

🔑Why a Newcomer Can Still Open Their Heart and Step into the Path of Awakening?

🔆Because the Light of the Awakened One Thích Diệu Thiện – the Awakened One Thích Thông Hội – is Always Open
• A newcomer may not yet see who they truly are, may not recognize the ego, and has not yet experienced doubt and release. Yet, the Light of the Awakened One is always ready to awaken, according to the appropriate moment, whether directly or indirectly, for an individual or a group.
• By stepping into the retreat, the practitioner touches this awakening energy — just once is enough to open the door to direct realization.

🔆Because No Prior Experience is Needed
• This path does not rely on knowledge, theory, or previous practice experience.
• All that is needed is the willingness to be awakened and to face oneself.
• The power of the Awakened One guides the practitioner step by step to recognize, face, doubt, and release the addiction to samsara.

🔆Because There is a Safe Supporting Environment
• The Sangha nourishes, supports, and stabilizes practitioners in a state of clear awareness with purpose, preventing them from going astray.
• Each practitioner is adjusted according to their readiness, without coercion or fixed schedules or methods.
• When necessary, the Awakened One provides further direct awakening, helping the practitioner break through from an unawakened state to direct realization.

🔆Because There Are Clear Signs of Transformation
• Even newcomers can notice changes in their mind:
• The Awakened Mind radiates, directly receiving the Light (the 5 Tathāgatas) from the Awakened One.
• Recognizing the radiance within themselves:
• Less attachment to emotions, recognition, and status.
• Seeing the ego clearly without panic, through the inherent radiance of mind.
• Even small experiences serve as living evidence of transformation.
• These signs create inner trust, not relying on preaching or theory alone.

🔆Because the Ultimate Goal is Direct Realization
• Newcomers do not need to “know beforehand” or be “perfectly ready.”
• By opening their heart, they step directly into the Light, progressing step by step:
1. Realize who the Awakened One truly is
2. Realize who they themselves truly are
3. Recognize and face the ego
4. Doubt and release the addiction to samsara
5. Enter the source of awakening → break the addiction → become a Buddha → liberate others
• This path is not promised to be easy, but it opens complete awakening and liberation, for both newcomers and experienced practitioners.

Using a mirror and some fine sand as the Awakened Skillful Means, Awakened Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien awakened everyone in the room to instantly realize the profound truth about ourselves: Because we don’t know who we truly are (the mirror), we absorb the information from the society, believing it as us, our mirror becomes covered (the sand), living with duality or good/bad, right/wrong, causing suffering for ourselves and others.

Through the tangible story of student Tinh Chon Tanh, the Awakened One opened for us how when one person in a family is real and connects to the Awakened Five Natures of the Awakened One, the light from that one person will spread to their immediate family, and beyond, spreading to the whole world. From one or two people transforming… the impact radiates outward.

It’s the light that is much needed in the chaotic world today… The light of hope, wisdom, and true love. There was a powerful feeling in the room — a sense of Spring, of new beginnings, of deep transformation. Not just small change… but a paradigm shift.

Every retreat participant, whether brand new or seasoned to meditation, was very open and willing, wholeheartedly participating in eating meditation, barefoot walking meditation, and more, as they continued to discover the Clear Mind, and liberating the false mind.
