Myth v. Fact

Myth: It is acceptable to crush or split any pill.

Fact: Some medications, such as extended-release or enteric-coated tablets, are designed to be swallowed whole. Crushing or splitting them can disrupt the intended release of the drug, leading to an overdose or reducing its effectiveness. If you have trouble swallowing pills, ask your pharmacist if a liquid, chewable, or smaller form is available.
