We are SO excited to welcome Dr. Elizabeth back to the Rockwall office this week 🩷

We are also stoked to now have Saturday availability 🥂

2 years ago I was in the pits of first trimester fatigue + opening the Rockwall office

I’m so glad we did it because I honestly love treating patients in Rockwall and working alongside is so fun 🩷

Thank you Jesus for this office and the relationships that have come from it 🥰

Re: the sensation of sitting on a golf ball or egg 🐣 in the spirit of Easter

This is actually something I hear quite often and it is usually coming from a muscle called the obturator internus muscle

It’s a tricky muscle that can refer pain several different places (tailbone, lower abdomen, re**um)

The good news is: it’s not a big scary diagnosis and the rehab is pretty straight forward.

🥂 to lasting symptom relief!

This + jumping jacks + running + sneezing + coughing ans anything else she wants to do leak free 🔥

Another win for pelvic floor therapy 💯

I’m not pregnant…. This is just the best visual I have!!!

Instead of crunching when you engage your core, try to pull inward from the sides💯

During pregnancy: try to hug your baby with your core muscles

Your pelvic floor will thank you 😌

How does adductor mobility help?

The adductors attach to the public bone, which is also an attachment point for the pelvic floor muscles. The bladder sits right behind the p***c bone so tension from the adductors impacts the bladder and pelvic floor 🧐

Like and follow for more bladder tips!!!

Breathing exercises 😮‍💨

Relearning how to breath with your diaphragm when you’re postpartum is so foundational and everything else is built on top of it 💯

When you’re pregnant, your lower ribs expand and flatten to allow for your uterus to grow upward, which needs to happen, but it also flattens your diaphragm.

Your diaphragm is an ESSENTIAL muscle for breathing, and core strengthening so I’d start my training there 💯

It’s been a long, intentional journey to get back to where I want to be exercise wise

At my 6 week PP appointment my OB cleared me for exercise but said she deferred to me for my own guidance because that is my expertise (we love that)

Here’s what I did and what I recommend:
⭐️ start with your deep core
⭐️ progress to functional movements (squats, deadlifts, shoulder press, and rows) WITH proper core activation
⭐️ progress to single leg stability
⭐️ add run/walking in if that’s your goal. Start with 50/50 walk/run
⭐️ challenge strength and single leg stability
⭐️ challenge running distance and speed (if that’s your goal)

Notes: I don’t recommend returning to running until 12 weeks PP. Exercise is not the priority if your baby isn’t sleeping through the night. And don’t neglect pelvic floor symptoms.. if they aren’t gone at 12 weeks, they probably won’t go away on their own.

Exercise during pregnancy is safe (for most) and advantageous for you and your baby 🥰

It doesn’t have to be overwhelming, moderate intensity is recommended 💯

The gallbladder helps breakdown fatty food & if removed, fatty food should consumed minimally

If not, chronic diarrhea can occur

How does this relate to your pelvic floor?

Your PF muscles weren’t made to chronically hold in diarrhea and it makes their job very hard

They will likely become overactive, and can lead to symptoms like urinary urgency, frequency, etc.
