Happy Leap Year DAY! One more day until March Mayhem, and we "officially" kick off our month of heavy fundraising promotions.
Let's begin with our first opportunity and seriously, WHO DOES NOT LIKE TO EAT?!?! in Prosper has chosen 3FTL as their non-profit to support for the month of March. Come by and have a meal with us on March 5, and a portion of the sales on this day will be graciously donated to 3FTL!
Don't have time for lunch? Click on the QR Code to either donate to 3FTL OR set up a recurring gift.

You're not negative; you've been traumatized.
The reason why CBT and other talk therapies don't always work for trauma survivors is that it is hard to challenge thinking patterns when the worst-case scenario has already happened. You were caught off guard before. Your brain is wired to say, โ€œLetโ€™s make sure that doesn't happen again!" How can you blame it? It is hypervigilant, scanning for potential danger matches in your environment. This is a defense mechanism.

People in this state may have developed a habit known in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the cognitive distortion of "Catastrophizing."

To shield yourself in the future, you may start imagining the worst-case outcomes in every situation as you fear another unexpected blow.

Your brain and body have been wired to remember. And while you'll never forget this trauma, you can change how it is stored in the body and brain.

๐˜ผ๐™๐™ helps to rewire parts of the brain by speaking the language of trauma.
By employing bilateral eye movements and somatic, bodily experiencing, ๐˜ผ๐™๐™ adopts a "Bottom-up" approach, addressing trauma at a fundamental level, reaching parts of the brain formed before language development. Instead of "rationalizing" and "talking sense into" your negative thoughts,โ€ ๐˜ผ๐™๐™ uses metaphors and visualization.

The body needs to feel these sensations and emotions through the processing. ๐˜ผ๐™๐™ creates new perspectives and thought restructuring around the trauma. So you may walk away with a more "Positive outlook" around the trauma, but not because you yelled at yourself to "Be positive.โ€ Itโ€™s because you have created new understandings and new neural connections.

๐˜ผ๐™๐™ offers a holistic and neurologically-driven approach to healing, bypassing the limitations of verbal communication and reaching the root of where trauma is stored.

So you can stop the shaming self-talk for being "Too negative."
You can stop feeling annoyed with your anxiety.
Your brain was trying to protect you.

Your trauma wants to be heard.
Answer it in a language it understands.

"As the Founder and Developer of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (๐˜ผ๐™๐™) I have been asked
frequently through the years what the difference is between ART and EMDR. In this presentation
I explain the difference by using words, in what is generally considered her definitive work, of
Francine Shapiro, the Founder and Developer of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
(EMDR).
The book used here for ๐˜ผ๐™๐™โ€™s comparison with EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy โ€“ Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures, third edition, 2017
by Francine Shapiro, PhD."

Laney Rosenzweig highlights the differences between EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy in her new paper "Differences Between EMDR and ART". Read more!

Let's talk about resentment, most people can empathize with being treated unfairly, whether that be rejection, being demoted, disrespected, feeling misunderstood or dismissed, etc. While being treated unfairly is hurtful, what we do with that pain, can be more hurtful. Boundaries and speaking up for ourselves are not about changing the other person or their perspective.

Boundaries are for YOU to ensure YOU are treating yourself with respect even if another person is not.

Resentment can build when we have continuously accepted disrespect, lack of consideration, or dismissal, and we attach the pain to ourselves rather than placing a boundary.

Simple Example:
You canโ€™t talk to me that way!

Boundary:
I will not continue to engage in this conversation when spoken to that way.

The hard truth is that you will not always receive understanding, accountability, or acknowledgment from the person who hurt you. While it is nice when you do receive it, it isnโ€™t necessary to move forward, having anger toward the other person is a healthy and normal response, itโ€™s the anger you have with yourself you want to forgive. We have to remember we are only responsible for our actions, reactions, communication, and responses.
