Hopkins County Genealogical Society

Hopkins County Genealogical Society To preserve genealogical and historical records of Hopkins County, Texas. To encourage researchers to visit us to do on-site family history research.

Each year we have about 2000 researchers from within Texas and from numerous other states visit our library and archives. We have researchers sign our guest list when they use our library and out-of-town researchers complete a survey. In 2013 we logged visitors from 17 different states including Utah, California, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Idaho and Arizona. Researchers also came from several distant Texas cities. Our quarterly publication, The Hopkins County Heritage, is mailed to 210 society members plus about 65 libraries and other societies on our exchange list. About 50% of our membership comes from individuals living outside Hopkins County. They are interested in their Hopkins County family roots. The quarterly informs readers of events and activities in the county relating to their heritage. The quarterly also provides information about our library holdings such as new books and microfilm we have purchased. This information encourages our out-of-town members and their families to plan trips to Sulphur Springs to research at our library and archives.
