More spotlights on our telecommunicators

Miranda Rushin has worked with Hopkins County EMS for 2 years. She came to us as a 911 dispatcher and is currently seeking to become an EMT as well.
Her favorite part of the job is helping people even just being on the phone.
The best advice she has received in EMS: I may act like I'm okay but deep down inside, I'm hungry again and need Dutch Bros
She enjoys both coffee and energy drinks, and her go to shift snack would be Popcorn.
Her favorite thing to do outside of work is to spend time with her handsome son!
A fun fact about Miranda is the fact that she is in EMT school and looking forward to helping others on the Ambulance.
She would choose a Phoenix for a mascot if EMS had one.
She says that if she were not in EMS, she would be a Lineman.

Thank you for stepping up and into the role of 911 Dispatcher.

Thank you for being a dispatcher today.

Selena Hernandez has been with Hopkins County EMS for 2 years. She came to us as a 911 dispatcher and then acquired her EMT so she works on the EMS side as well now.
Her favorite part of the job is being able to help someone on their worst day.
Best advice she has been given in EMS is "Be the Calm in the Storm"
She enjoys both coffee and energy drinks and her go to snack on shift is Welch's fruit snacks!
Her favorite things to do outside of work are shopping, brunch, and spending time with family and friends.
A fun fact about Selina she says is that she is an EMT.
She doesn't really know about a mascot for EMS, she thinks that the Ambulances are already a symbol of our mascot.
If she were not in EMS, she would like to pursue being a Probation Officer or working for CPS.

Thank you Selena for being the calm in the storm.

Thank you for being a 911 dispatcher today.

More spotlights on our telecommunicators

Marissa Noble has been a 911 dispatcher for Hopkins County EMS for 1 and 1/2 years. One of our newest members to the team, she says that her favorite part of the job is the family you gain while working here. The best advice she has received in EMS has been to "have a reason for every decision you make".
Marissa doesn't rely on coffee or energy drinks per say, but don't take away her Dr. Pepper though!
Her go to shift snack is mini spicy funyuns. (hence more Dr. Pepper)
Her favorite thing to do when she is off duty is spending time with her family and friends.
A fun fact about her is that she is known to be positive and laughs a lot.
If EMS had a mascot, she would go with the Eagle... fast, sharp, always watching, and ready
If she were not in EMS, she would still want a "people-focused" job where she could help others and make an impact.

Buckle Up Newby, it might be a bumpy ride at times.
Thanks for making the choice to be a 911 dispatcher here with us at Hopkins County EMS.

She enjoys both coffee and energy drinks but needs a little extra espresso!
Her go to snacks include Red Bull and Cheez Its!
When she is not at work, she enjoys reading books and spending time with her family.
A Fun fact about Belinda is that she can finish a book in a day but cannot finish a TV show episode without falling asleep!

More spotlights on our telecommunicators

Harleigh Williams is the Captain of the Communication Center and has been with Hopkins County EMS for 4 years.
Her favorite part of the job is helping people in their critical moments and the sense of purpose knowing what we do helps those in our community.
Some of the best advice she has received is "Don't lose your life outside of the job." The people who last in EMS are the ones who protect time like that. The job can take a lot from you if you let it but have something real and grounding to come home to makes all the difference.
Harleigh enjoys her coffee in the mornings and has an energy drink with her lunches.
Her go to snacks, include pretzels and beef jerky.
Her favorite thing to do outside of work is spending time with her husband and their 3 boys. Whether it's cheering at one of their sports games or just enjoying a cozy movie night at home.
A fun fact about her is that she bartends charity events for the Child Advocacy Center of Greenville.
If EMS had a mascot, she is going with a Squirrel.
If she were not in EMS, she would most likely be a stay-at-home mom while having more time to do my small shirt making/craft business.

Thank you Harleigh for being the first voice in the chaos.

Thank you for being a 911 dispatcher today!

Misty Partin has been in EMS for 5 years, working both sides of the Ambulance and as a 911 dispatcher.
A favorite part of her job is being able to help people when they need it the most. Some great advice she has received over the years is to just take things one moment at a time and remember that it’s the person you are helping’s Emergency, not yours.
She does drink her coffee, but would prefer a Dr. Pepper!
Her go to snacks are chips, candy, or a good flavor gum.
When she is not at work, she enjoys reading, video games, going to hockey games, and mostly spending time with her family.
A fun fact about Misty is that she is a big fan of the Dallas Stars hockey team, and enjoys seeing them in person. Her favorite player is #18, Sam Steel.
If EMS had a mascot, Misty says little Andy the Ambulance would be good.
If she wasn’t in EMS, Misty says she would pursue a Nursing career!

Thank you Misty for all you do and being a true First responder!

Thank you for being a 911 dispatcher today!

More Spotlights on some of our Telecommunicators.

Kim Morrow has been in EMS for 10 years, having also transitioned from the MICU to the 911 Dispatcher.
A favorite part of her job she says is making a difference on someone's worst day and knowing you showed up when it mattered most. A great piece of advice she received was to slow down, don't go too fast, take a breath, think clearly, and trust your training.
She says she needs coffee to survive, and energy drinks to thrive.
A go to snack would be whatever she could eat in under 2 minutes. 🙂
When she is not working as a 911 dispatcher, she loves to spend time with her family.
A fun fact about Kim, is that she can function on zero sleep and still remember every call detail, just don't ask her where she left her keys.....
If EMS had a mascot, Kim says a racoon...runs on caffeine, thrives in chaos, and always finds snacks.
If she were not in the EMS business, she says that she would have her own business.

Thank you Kim for all you do, and for being a calm in the chaos!
Thank you for being a 911 Dispatcher today!

Spotlight on some of our Telecommunicators.

We ask our communicators a few questions, and let's get to know a little about them now.

Cathy Halter has been in EMS for 44 years, and after retirement from the MICU, she became a 911 dispatcher. Her favorite part is being able to make a difference in someone's life and sharing her EMS life experiences with the younger crowd.
The best advice she has received has been to think outside of the box. Not every call is a "text book" call. Be prepared.
She prefers a Dr. Pepper or Sweet Tea as a drink of choice and stays away from the energy drinks and coffee.
One of her favorite things to do when not at work is to get comfy in her recliner and nap with her cats all in her lap. She enjoys watching baseball, NASCAR, and reruns of Criminal Minds.
A fun fact to share about her is she loves to travel. She is a big Hank Williams, Jr, fan. She loves her Texas Rangers, and can't pass up reruns of Jurassic Park Series, or Harry Potter Series when they appear on TV.
If EMS had a mascot, she says it should be a Velociraptor:
Agile, Intelligent, Opportunistic hunter. Mostly nocturnal, and usually a solitary predator.
If she were not in EMS, she doesn't know what she would do. She has been in EMS since she was 17 years old, but believes she would love to work with horses, and have a cat sanctuary. She says she would consider world travel, but that takes money!

Thank you Cathy for all your years of service and thank you for being a 911 dispatcher today!

It's never too early to start thinking about EMS EVOLUTION 2026 this September 28-30 at the Texas A&M Hotel & Conference Center.

We're excited to announce our keynote speaker: John Moon.

John Moon began his EMS career in 1972 with Freedom House Ambulance, after seeing the impressive crews in action while working as an orderly in a local hospital. After completing the necessary training on his own, he was hired by Freedom House and changed the course of his life.

John retired as Assistant Chief of Pittsburgh EMS in 2009 after 34 years of service. He now dedicates much of his time in retirement to ensuring the history of Freedom House Ambulance is not forgotten. He travels the country speaking at Black history events and EMS conferences, as well as book signing tours with author Kevin Hazzard who featured Moon in his 2022 book American Sirens. He was an invited guest at President Biden’s State of the Union address in 2024.
