Congratulations, Kelly Stonaker!

STONAKER HONORED AS TEXAS EMS ALLIANCE EMS PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

Hopkins County, Texas — Hopkins County EMS is proud to announce that Kelly Stonaker has been named the EMS Professional of the Year by the State EMS Association (Texas EMS Alliance) in recognition of her outstanding leadership, dedication, and innovation in emergency medical services.

Kelly Stonaker brings over 30 years of experience in prehospital care. After a period working in hospital emergency rooms as a registered nurse, she returned full-time to EMS in March 2022, reaffirming her commitment to serving patients in the field. Since her return, Kelly has risen to the role of Shift Supervisor while continuing her ER shifts as needed.

Under Kelly’s leadership, B Shift at Hopkins County EMS has seen exceptional staff stability. Her mentorship, training efforts, and team-building skills have earned her great respect within the agency.

Kelly’s role extends well beyond routine operations. She has completed numerous trainings with the Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF) and now regularly serves as both MIST (Medical Incident Support Team) and MEDL (Medical Unit Leader) for local, regional, and state incident responses. When disaster strikes, Kelly is frequently requested by name by local Disaster District Committees and State Coordination Offices for her calm command and deep understanding of both EMS and hospital environments.

In addition to her field contributions, Kelly has made a powerful impact on public safety through her development of a distracted driving prevention program aimed at high school students. She secured grant funding to produce a polished instructional video and supporting materials, which are being offered to area schools and expanding across the region. The program addresses texting, alcohol, and drug-impaired driving. Recently, the initiative gained further reach when a major Texas distribution company adopted the program for its workforce of commercial drivers.

Kelly’s combination of clinical excellence, steadfast leadership, community outreach, and programmatic innovation embodies the spirit and mission of the EMS profession. Her award is not only a recognition of her individual contributions, but also a celebration of the lifesaving culture she fosters in Hopkins County EMS and beyond.
