If my best friend told me about a day like this…
moving house, body wrecked, b***s sore, 3-month-old needing to be fed every 20 minutes, crying in between packing up boxes…

I would not say:

“You should be coping better.”
“Other mums manage more.”
“You’re messing this up.”

I’d probably make her tea, sit her down and say:

“Of course you cracked.
You’re carrying too much.
You’re still a good mum.
Rest. I’ve got you.”

But when it’s me?

The first instinct is to attack, not to comfort.

Today I’m sitting with this question:
What would change if I was my own best friend on days like this?

If I spoke to myself like the woman I love most in the world.
If I gave myself the same softness I give everyone else.
If I decided I’m worth showing up for, not just for the baby, not just for my partner.

That’s the quiet work I’m doing under all the boxes and tears right now:
learning to be on my own side.

Today my body feels completely broken.

The movers did the big part. My husband helped on the weekend and after work. But right now, during the day, it’s just me… a three-storey house to finish packing, and a three-month-old who needs my body every 20 minutes.

On paper it sounds simple: “just finish the house.” In my body it feels like climbing Mount Everest with no sleep, sore muscles, leaking b***s and a nervous system that’s already on edge.

This is the part of motherhood we don’t see on social media. The sacred doesn’t always look like candlelight and calm breaths. Sometimes it’s puffy eyes, shaking hands, and whispering to yourself, “keep going, just one more box… just one more feed.”

I’m sharing this as Part 1 because I don’t want to only document the highlight reel. I want to remember the raw, messy chapters too – where strength looks like tears, asking for help, and still showing up for this little soul.
