Pain Management can be a humiliating experience. Many offices treat their patients like dregs of society. Most would prefer not to have to depend on a medication to function. As I mentioned previously at least 10% develop an addiction. Many more "misuse" their prescription in an attempt to get the relief they first experienced when started on op**tes. Op**te medications can lose their effectiveness as the patient develops tolerance. Even worse, some patients develop hyperalgesia from the drug itself, so as the dose wears off the pain comes back with a vengeance. These patients deserve to be treated with compassion, and need to have a physician who understands how to reduce or eliminate dependence on medication that no longer is effective. They should not just be "terminated" from a practice. If you know someone suffering in this way, please share there is help available.
