Meet Dr. Jewell, MD – Medical Director & Board Certified Psychiatrist

"I chose to become a psychiatrist because I’ve always been deeply interested in the intricate relationship between the brain, behavior, and human experience. From early on, I was struck by how mental health influences every part of a person’s life—relationships, decision-making, self-worth—and how often it goes untreated due to stigma or lack of access. Psychiatry offered a path where I could combine rigorous medical training with the opportunity to listen, understand, and support people through their most difficult challenges.

What solidified my commitment to the field was witnessing the impact of substance use disorders, both personally and professionally. I saw how addiction can devastate individuals and families, and how often it is rooted in trauma, untreated mental illness, or social determinants of health. Yet, I also saw the resilience and transformation that can occur with the right treatment, compassion, and support. I was drawn to the opportunity to work with patients navigating both psychiatric conditions and substance use, knowing that effective care often requires addressing both simultaneously.

Psychiatry allows me to walk alongside patients through their darkest moments—whether that involves managing psychosis, treating major depression, or helping someone begin recovery from opioid use disorder. There’s a unique privilege in earning a patient’s trust when they feel most vulnerable and helping them find a path forward. I’m continually inspired by their courage and motivated to provide care that is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and rooted in empathy.

Ultimately, I became a psychiatrist because I believe that healing the mind is just as vital as healing the body—and that everyone deserves a chance to be seen, heard, and supported in their journey toward wellness."
