Congratulations to Jesse Fender, Director of Environmental Services, for completing the Summerville Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Dorchester program. This year-long leadership program is an intensive and comprehensive study of the political, civic, economic, and social dynamics in action within Dorchester County.

Additionally, the 2025 class completed a project in partnership with Beyond BASIC, a local nonprofit that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities. The class redesigned the nonprofit’s backyard and side yard into a safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor environment.

💗 On October 28th at 12:50pm, Janni and David Gaskins, along with big sister Fiona, welcomed baby girl Romalee Rose into the world. But this birth story is more than just a celebration of new life—it's a testament to resilience, healing, and the power of shared experience.

Janni, a breast cancer survivor, was surrounded by a uniquely supportive care team: her labor nurse Anna Clar Wilks and transition nurse Kelly Spilbor are also breast cancer survivors. Together, these three women formed a bond rooted in strength and understanding.

“My whole delivery was truly amazing,” Janni shared. “When you meet women who have had similar experiences, it creates a bond and trust that brings comfort during moments that can feel scary or overwhelming.” She continued, “Breast cancer changes you. As hard as it can be, the transformation can be beautiful. I believe we go through trials so we can be a guiding light to others. I’m grateful for these nurses who shared their stories and stood in my corner—for me and my little girl.”

Romalee Rose’s arrival is a beautiful reminder that survivorship can lead to new beginnings, and that healing is often found in the company of those who truly understand.

Our incredible nurses dedicated over 40 hours to handcrafting these adorable costumes, ensuring every detail was safe and snuggly for our babies’ first celebrity photo shoot. We’re proud to share that we collected almost 175 pounds of unused and expired medication at this year’s Crush the Crisis prescription drug take-back event in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our HCA Healthcare locations across the Lowcountry, and our friends at the Summerville Police Department, Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, Colleton-County Sheriffs-Office, Walterboro Police Department and more agencies across Charleston for standing with us in the fight against opioid misuse.
