If you’re going to a party, there might be drugs - but that doesn’t mean you have to use them.

Jordan and Taylor decide to stay safe and sober, and even plan to bring Narcan just in case. That’s what looking out for each other really means.

Accidents happen, and when they do, focus on proven physical and psychological techniques to manage pain during your recovery.

Here are three tips for coping with snow sport injuries without pain medications:

Apply the R.I.C.E. method: Immediately apply the R.I.C.E. method (Rest, Ice, Compression, and proper Elevation to or above heart level) to minimize swelling.

Find ways to stay active while resting: Avoid inactivity by using non-weight bearing (NWB) cardio like swimming or a stationary bike. Maintain strength in your core and uninjured limbs to reduce overall deconditioning and shorten your physical recovery time.

Visualize your comeback: The mental journey is vital. Use visualization, picturing yourself skiing or snowboarding successfully and pain-free, to rebuild confidence, ease the fear of re-injury, and keep yourself motivated for rehab.

By committing to these dual physical and mental strategies, you ensure the safest and strongest possible return to the mountain.

Identifying potential substance use in a friend requires observing a persistent and noticeable pattern of changes, not just a single incident. The key signs often fall into three main categories: behavioral, physical, and psychological alterations.
Here are the most common signs you can look for are:

- Drop in grades: A sudden and significant drop in grades, frequently missing school or classes, or a loss of interest in activities, sports, or hobbies they once enjoyed.

- Bloodshot eyes: Eyes may be bloodshot, glazed, or watery, and pupils might be constricted (pinpoint) or dilated (larger) than normal.

- Unexplained marks: Watch for unexplained sores around the mouth, burns on the fingers, or small, concealed marks (from needles) on arms or legs.

- Mood swings: Sudden, unexplained changes in personality or attitude, including becoming irritable, hostile, unusually angry, or uncooperative.

If someone is experiencing a drug or alcohol overdose, don’t hesitate to call 911.

Colorado’s 911 Good Samaritan Law protects you (and the person overdosing) from criminal prosecution for certain offenses if you:
✔️ Report the overdose in good faith
✔️ Stay at the scene until help arrives
✔️ Identify yourself & cooperate with responders

*Note: This law has limits for possession/distribution of certain amounts of substances.

In recent years, the term opioids has come up more and more, but what exactly are they?

Opioids are powerful medications that are often prescribed to treat pain. While they can be helpful when used correctly under a doctor’s instructions, opioids can be highly addictive. Street opioids are made and sold illegally, and sometimes laced with fentanyl.

Because of how addictive and risky these drugs are, it’s important to stay informed and make smart choices.

One pill can change everything.
