Meet Barney! Today’s Patient Pal! This sweet, quiet pup is the best kind of companion—always there to listen without judgment and nap without a care in the world. Barney reminds us of the simple comfort that a loyal pet can bring. Sometimes, the best therapy comes with four paws and a wagging tail!

OCD thrives on control, convincing you that if you just perform the right ritual or think the ‘correct’ thought, everything will feel safe again. But the truth is, control is the illusion that keeps OCD alive. Real growth comes from leaning into uncertainty and accepting that discomfort doesn’t need to be solved or fixed. The moment you stop giving in to OCD’s demands, you begin taking your power back.

If you are suffering with OCD, help can seem scary. You are deserving of treatment. is here to support you in your treatment journey.

Today, during a conversation with a colleague, they reminded me of something powerful they have brought into sessions: We can’t expect ourselves in others.

We all have different values, perspectives, and ways of showing up. Holding others to the standard of who we are only creates frustration and disappointment. Embracing this truth frees us to focus on understanding, not control.

A reminder to let go, connect, and honor differences—it’s liberating.

As we step into 2025, let’s skip the pressure of traditional resolutions. This year, focus on releasing rather than resolving. Here are three ways to approach the new year with intention, not pressure:

1️⃣ Don’t Set Resolutions: Skip the pressure to “fix” yourself with goals. Instead, focus on being rather than doing.

2️⃣ Release What No Longer Serves You: Let go of the distorted thoughts, beliefs, or habits that hold you back—whether it’s self-doubt, guilt, or unnecessary pressure.

3️⃣ Nurture Curiosity Over Judgment: When faced with setbacks, practice responding with curiosity rather than self-criticism. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this moment?”

Let’s make 2025 about releasing what no longer serves you and embracing growth with self-compassion. What thought or belief will you let go of this year?

Patient Pup of the Day: Milo!
Milo, a cheerful 4-month-old puppy, was all smiles during his visit to Resilient Minds. A friendly reminder: well-behaved dogs are always welcome in our office to accompany patients!

This holiday season, let’s release the pressure to feel “happy” all the time. Happiness can be fleeting and, at times, an illusion. Instead, let’s focus on peace. Peace is real, grounding, and achievable, even if only for a moment. Take a deep breath, find stillness in the chaos, and allow yourself grace. Peace is enough. You are enough. Have a safe and peaceful holiday season. -Meghan Albanese, Resilient Minds Psychiatry NJ

Thanksgiving often comes with traditions—some cherished, some inherited, and others carried forward simply because “it’s what we’ve always done.” While traditions can be a source of connection and comfort, they can also become burdensome when they no longer serve you or your family.

If a tradition brings stress, conflict, or exhaustion instead of joy and togetherness, it’s okay to step back and ask, “Why am I holding onto this?” Grace lies in recognizing that what worked in the past might not align with your present.

This Thanksgiving, I invite you to give yourself permission to let go of traditions that feel heavy and unhelpful. You’re not “breaking the rules” or “letting anyone down.”

Traditions should enhance our lives, not weigh us down.

I would like to wish the Resilient Minds NJ Community a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving. 🦃
