"A 2018 meta-analysis of 20 studies involving more than 1,400 patients found that the therapy is equally effective for depression, as well as a range of anxiety disorders, whether delivered in person or online. “You can do it individually or in groups, by telephone or by Internet interventions, and the effects are not different,” says clinical psychologist Pim Cuijpers of Vrije University in Amsterdam, a co-author of the meta-analysis and of many studies on remote therapies."

I am pleased to announce that myHope has published a simple Mood and Skills app for clients of our practice to use as a means of tracking mood and skill use on a weekly basis.

Clients who are on a more formal diary card arrangement should NOT use this app and continue with the tool(s) they are currently using now.

"“Our main results are basically that for women who were trauma-exposed with varying levels of symptoms," Rieder said. "The symptoms just seem to be worse during the lower estradiol portion of the cycle."

Reider also said that lower estradiol is "predictive of women reporting more symptoms when they were reflecting on their experiences over the past month." "

New research suggests that the hormonal changes of the menstrual cycle might influence the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The US still has a strange view of ma*****na; even in states where it is legalized you will find communities with two or more liquor shops fighting the presence of businesses that sell ma*****na tooth and nail. Ma*****na is a problematic substance, but it is far less problematic than alcohol. Many folks use ma*****na as a tapering agent to reduce alcohol use or their use of other substances. We really need to understand that criminalizing any substance only makes that substance more dangerous and turns what can be a revenue stream that could potentially fund treatment programs that repairs lives into a black hole that swallows community resources while destroying families and human life.

A little alcohol can boost creativity and strengthen social ties. But there’s nothing moderate, or convivial, about the way many Americans drink today.

Filtering is one of several maladaptive thought patterns that we can find ourselves in the throes of while experiencing high levels of emotion and moodiness. We become especially prone to this distortion during episodes of depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders. It is often the stepping stone to other distortions (polarized thinking as an example).

"Lastly, prayer (within a skills framework) is about mindfulness. Mindfully connecting to the resource identified as a higher power, something greater than you or someone you love and respect. It sometimes involves words, and other times it involves imagery. For some people, it involves Jesus, Allah; for others Nature, or the Universe. Sometimes prayer can involve the objects around you — the things you can touch and feel."

"The analysed findings, published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, show that "alarming" levels of loneliness are associated with significant mental health issues, asapproximately 61% of respondents reporting moderate (45%) to severe (17%) anxiety.

Meanwhile, 30% of interviewees disclosed harmful levels of drinking. And, although only 22% of the respondents reported using drugs, 38% of these reported severe drug use."

A new national survey, looking at how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted young U.S. adults' loneliness, reveals 'significant depressive symptoms' in 80 percent of participants.

"Major depressive episodes are far more common than we thought," said Tam. "Our model shows that the probability of someone having a first major depressive episode is especially high during adolescence. We also know from other research that having a first major depressive episode increases the likelihood you'll have a second one. This means that anything we can do to prevent or treat episodes among young people could lead to larger health benefits over the course of their life."

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/07/200730132813.htm

The number of adults in the United States who suffer from major depressive episodes at some point in their life is far higher than previously believed, a new study finds.

"In a typical sample, women were 1.6 times more likely to experience OCD compared to men, with lifetime prevalence rates of 1.5% in women and 1.0% in men. There was also a trend toward younger adults’ being more likely to experience OCD in their lifetime than older adults. "

Women seem more likely than men to develop obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but findings of individual studies are inconsistent. This meta-analysis estimated the worldwide prevalence of OCD to determine if the disorder is indeed more common in women.
