Your Health & Wellness Tip of the Week:
(a hot tip from a Yoga Therapist who coaches folks along their wellness journey every day - this one was the best advice I'd ever received and so I pass it along often!)

If you've been cruising along on your wellness routine for the new year, but now are hitting a plateau, feeling burdened or overwhelmed by your goals, or running into too many obstacles lately because real life seems to be thwarting your grand plans... if you are starting to feel discouraged and you're ready to throw up your hands...

Don't quit. Instead, give yourself permission to pause and take a break. For the moment, or the day, or the whole weekend... Pause a beat to reset.

Shake things up like an Etch A Sketch!

And when you start again, know that you won't be starting from scratch. You'll be starting from experience, picking up where you left off before things went sideways.

Take good care of you and be well... whether you are working at it, or taking a break for a hot second. ๐Ÿ’• Margo

This big wide world may feel heavy. It may be heartbreaking. Provoking. Infuriating. Exhausting... I hope you gift yourself moments of a commercial break from the rest of the world so that you can also feel grounded. Hopeful. Quiet. Peaceful. Resilient, too.

My self-care challenge for you this week may be the biggest challenge yet for 2026: Take 5 minutes at the top of the hour to step away from your desk, turn off the news, set down your phone, and pause your worrying mind to do something mundane - for just *five minutes*. Brew a cup of tea. Water that neglected houseplant. Fold laundry. Wash your face. Walk to the corner and back...

Do something that requires you to get up and move, but doesn't require huge effort, critical thinking, or tough decision making. The mind and the rest of your senses can really benefit from that five minute commercial break.

Rinse and repeat as many hours of the day as you need, unapologetically. And be well (or as well as you can be given the circumstances). ๐Ÿ’• Margo

Your Health & Wellness Tip of the Week:
(a hot tip from a Yoga Therapist who coaches folks along their wellness journey every day - and this one is fundamental to successful wellness goals, my friends!)

Pause a beat and consider, what would you do if you weren't held back by arthritis flares, or daily mid-afternoon brain fog, or feeling miserable thanks to sciatica, or overwhelming grief that just won't seem to pass, or... [insert your own chronic pain or stress point here]...? I mean, really, picture it clearly. What will you do with this one wild and precious life when you reach your wellness goals and aren't held back by chronic pain or stress?

When we can clearly imagine what we would *be able to do* and how we would *feel* when we reach our wellness goals, then we have found the fundamental key to the best motivator there is.

Not the "I should..." Not the "I really just gotta..." Not the "It'd be nice ta..." Those sentiments set us up for guilt trips, and discouragement, and overwhelm for ourselves. Because real life inevitably interrupts perfect plans or reveals that fads and trends in wellness don't actually bring meaningful results.

Would you go out hiking?

Would you take up dancing?

Would you feel like spending more time with friends or family?

I do a little (and sometimes it's a VERY little - like ten minutes worth of) yoga and mediation every day. I do it so that I can go on a trail ride with my daughter without my old hip injury being set afire. I do it so that I can work in my garden without throwing out my back. I do it so that I can spend all week homeschooling my kiddos AND have energy + patience leftover to still enjoy their company on the weekend!

And it is because I know my "why" that it is easy for me to fit a little self-care into my full days. This is the secret to turning motivation into sheer determination.

So, I share this little secret with you, and wish you all the determination you need to be well, dear friends! ๐Ÿ’• Margo

This week's self-care challenge -

Prioritize just these four things at least once each into your days this week:
โœ” hydrate well
โœ” move well
โœ” breathe well
โœ” rest well

When we begin to do these things well, we impact our own well-being in incredible ways. When we are well hydrated, moving well, breathing well, and well rested, the days seem more manageable, the to-do lists seem more do-able, and the chaos seems less overwhelming.

And while this list of priorities is super simple (meaning it is not complicated) that doesn't mean it's easy to do. This is especially true if you do not already have these habits incorporated into your daily routines. So, do give yourself some grace. Gold star if you do each of these things for yourself even once this week!

(Spoiler alert: Simple (as in, uncomplicated) self-care plans tend to get done more often then elaborate, fancy self-care plans, and therefore tend to have much greater impact on our overall well-being.)

Cheers to being well this week! ๐Ÿ’• Margo

Wherever you are along your wellness journey - while you are healing chronic pain, managing chronic stress, getting more fit, aging well - the carrot to chase is for your continuous improvement, not for perfection.

๐Ÿ‘†This is the sentiment we are after when you hear yoga teachers remind you that it is "yoga practice, not yoga perfect," or you hear wellness coaches say "it's about the journey, not the destination," or perhaps you've been told "yoga is not a work-out, it's a work-in."

When you are incorporating yoga into your self-care routine for healing chronic pain, stress, or fatigue, it's essential to:

๐Ÿ’กKnow where to begin and how to continue gradually,
๐Ÿ’กKnow how to keep going when progress plateaus, and
๐Ÿ’กKnow when to challenge yourself and when to rest.

And if you are not sure what you can do to start seeing continuous improvement, or you need an accountability partner or perhaps a cheerleader... Well, that is what Balanced Mind Body Therapy was designed to do!

๐Ÿ“†There are openings in the appointment books for new clients in February and March. Feel free to reach out for a free consultation!

Your Health & Wellness Tip of the Week:
(a hot tip from a Yoga Therapist who coaches folks along their wellness journey every day - this one has come up for several folks lately)

Whether your plan is to get to that yoga class twice a week, or hit the gym every Wednesday, or eat only whole foods for dinner, or [fill in the blank with your brilliant self-care idea]... real life doesn't go according to plan. Something will come up - (hopefully!) not EVERY day, but some days there are meetings, appointments, lack of energy, sickness, injury [or fill in the blank with your own real life disruptors] that will prevent you from following through on your self-care. And nothing is more discouraging than real life disruptions!?!

The solution: Know those days happen, and plan for it!

Have a Plan B self-care trick that is simple enough to squeeze into the days that go sideways.

Missed yoga class today? Just do one restorative yoga pose at home for five minutes.

Didn't get to the gym this morning? Do plank pose for one minute when you get home from work today.

Not gonna have energy to cook dinner from scratch every night? Do a little meal prepping or freeze leftovers (on the days that your self-care meal planning do go smoothly) so you have an easy meal already in the fridge for the crazy day(s).

Not every day is going to have amazing self-care activities. But if you have a do-able Plan B, then at least you keep the self-care momentum going through the hectic days.

Best wishes to fitting a little self-care into your days... even if it is just a very little bit today. Because every little bit moves you closer to your wellness goals!

๐ŸคšWho else has to resist cynical eye rolling whenever they hear someone suggest you begin "setting your intentions" in order to "manifest your desires"? Soooo, hippy-dippy! Right?!?

Well, maybe not. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Setting intentions DOES actually help us define our goals, focus our attention, direct our energy, and ultimately, be far more likely to actually achieve our goals. Whether it's in the form of vision boards, or journal entries, or personal mantras, or just saying it aloud to our accountability buddy, intention setting is a valuable first step toward real success.

But here is a pro tip I've shared time and again with folks who are trying to escape the never ending cycle of chronic pain, daily stress, or constant fatigue โžก When setting your intentions, focus on How. You. Want. To. Feel. rather than focusing on just another new 'thing' you want to 'do.'

๐ŸšซNot, 'I oughta do yoga every day and get more bendy.'

๐ŸŒŸBut instead, 'I want to keep enjoying [insert your fave activity here] well into my 70's and beyond, so I'm going to get in the habit of doing at least 10 minutes of yoga every day.'

And this trick works just as well for short term goals, too. So, maybe give it a whirl and try setting your feel good intention for the week ahead.

Cheers to a week of doing a little something toward your best intentions this week!
