Interesting read. It looks like patients over the last few years have had cost sharing applied to their preventative services, like colonoscopies and mammograms, by insurance companies pursuant to recent court decisions. The Supreme Court of the US has now overturned that, thus again requiring insurance companies to cover at 100% without cost sharing (deductibles and copays) any preventative service designated an A or B by the United States Preventative Services Task Force. This is a major win for patients.

The USPSTF is a core part of my every day practice. It's recommendations are fundamental to primary care physicians' effective delivery of quality healthcare to the citizens of our country. I'll admit, RFK Jr was not my favorite pick for Secretary of HHS. We need to make sure we preserve the work of the USPSTF in what ever restructuring may occur. That's my 2 cents.

This Viewpoint discusses restructuring of the USPSTF while ensuring that its functions are safeguarded to avoid destabilizing vital public health infrastructure.

Interesting article. I was employed by the local healthcare system for merely a year, and my job satisfaction was in the basement! I left and restarted my own practice. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve even thought of the direct primary care option as well. What are your thoughts? Feel free to leave a comment below.

"Physician autonomy in employed settings has declined, leading to dissatisfaction and burnout. But hope remains as some physicians shift to independent practice

SCMA President Mayes DuBose, MD makes a great case for "Physician Lead Healthcare" in South Carolina. Did you know that the quality of your healthcare is being threatened by two bills currently before the South Carolina Legislature? Don't get me wrong, NPs and PAs are very valuable to healthcare today, but I still firmly believe that they should be supervised by physicians.

From the SC Medical South Carolina Medical Association:
"Senator Davis pre-filed SB44 and SB45 that would eliminate physician-led healthcare in South Carolina and allow NPs and PAs to practice independently, dramatically changing the way healthcare is delivered in South Carolina to the detriment of patient safety."

Follow this link to read Dr. DuBose's argument. If you feel so inclined, I would encourage you to contact your legislators and oppose SB44 and SB45.

Over the next year our association president, Dr. Mayes DuBose, will share his thoughts in a 6-part series titled "Real World Medicine."
