🌀🧡💙One year ago, Hurricanes Helene and Milton tested the strength and resilience of our people and communities. On Sept. 23, 2024, HCA Healthcare’s Enterprise Emergency Operations Center was activated ahead of . Just three days later, Helene made landfall – bringing catastrophic flooding, tornadoes and widespread damage across Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Then, on Oct. 9, struck Florida, just weeks after Helene.
In response, HCA Healthcare colleagues showed up – caring for patients, supporting one another and bringing critical relief to some of the hardest-hit communities, including those served by HCA Florida Healthcare.
• Hospital teams continued delivering exceptional patient care, even as some faced devastation in their own homes.
• Teams of HCA Healthcare nurses, physicians, behavioral health specialists, therapy dog teams, engineers and more traveled into devastated communities across the country, bringing support and comfort.
• Essentials like generators, gasoline and potable water were deployed to keep hospitals running.
• We connected with more than 30,000 impacted colleagues, ensuring access to food, housing and vital resources.
• The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund provided more than $3.3 million in grants to support over 3,500 colleagues – the largest response in the Hope Fund’s history.
As we mark this anniversary, we honor the courage, compassion and resilience of our colleagues – and remain committed to the care and improvement of human life, no matter the storm.
🎥 Watch the video to hear colleagues reflect on how we came together.

For many patients with blood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, a blood stem cell transplant – made possible by lifesaving donations – is the best option for survival. According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, 70% of patients who need a blood stem cell transplant don't have a fully matched donor in their family, leading them to rely on the NMDP.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we’re proud to help meet this critical need through the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network. This extensive network is among the largest providers of unrelated bone marrow donor transplants in the U.S., caring for tens of thousands of patients each year.

Thinking about becoming a donor? Here are a few common misconceptions and facts about blood stem cell and bone marrow donation:

❌ Myth: Donation is very painful.
✅ Fact: Discomfort and side effects vary from person to person, but it may be less painful than you think.

❌ Myth: Donation is expensive.
✅ Fact: Donating is free. All of your medical and travel expenses are covered by NMDP, and they can also help cover any lost wages due to donation.

❌ Myth: Only males can donate blood stem cells or bone marrow.
✅ Fact: Anyone between age 18 and 40 who meets the medical requirements can donate, regardless of gender.

You could be a match for someone in need. Learn more and join the registry today at https://bit.ly/46vJEGI

❤️ – or atrial fibrillation – is a disruption in the heart’s electrical system, leading to an irregular heartbeat. The American Heart Association estimates that over 5 million Americans are living with AFib. Symptoms vary from one person to another, and some people may not have any symptoms at all. Those with AFib have a higher risk of stroke, heart failure and other health concerns. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options, which can help reduce the risk.

If you’re living with AFib and you’re looking for support and resources, visit the American Heart Association’s My AFib Experience® website at https://bit.ly/3ViYbjZ

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, our larger HCA Healthcare network promotes better heart health through national education efforts and community integration to teach about healthy heart activities, CPR emergency response and knowing the symptoms of heart issues.

Tomorrow marks 24 years since 9/11 — a day our nation will never forget. For Dr. Stephanie Reynolds, a physician at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, the memories are deeply personal.

On that morning, she was an emergency room doctor in Queens, New York. Her husband, an NYPD officer, kissed her goodbye and said, “I don’t know if I’ll see you again,” before heading into the city as the second plane hit.

Thankfully, he made it home safely. In the days that followed, Dr. Reynolds did what she still does today — cared for patients with compassion, comforted grieving families and stood strong in the face of unimaginable loss.

This Sept. 11, Dr. Reynolds and her husband will return to New York to honor the officers in his unit who never came home.

Her story is one of courage, compassion and resilience. Watch the full feature from FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay: https://bit.ly/4mXnlAL

Patient safety remains a top priority at HCA Florida Healthcare and across HCA Healthcare’s integrated network of care. As a part of this commitment, HCA Healthcare established our own Patient Safety Organization (PSO) in 2014 to build systems, refine processes and enhance safety.

In our ongoing efforts to improve safe patient care, our PSO regularly refines processes and implements new safety measures. Our dedicated care teams work together each day to foster a safe environment for both our patients and our colleagues. Earlier this year, 49 HCA Healthcare hospitals were recognized on the 2025 Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals list for being within the top 5% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.
