We wanted to give a HUGE shout out to our Chaplain, Paul, who spent all day working with John from JohnnyKat’s Handyman Services to build out a door and wall for our patient who had been sleeping in an add-on room with a makeshift door exposing him to the cold during the winter and extreme heat during the summer. This patient said it was a “dying wish” to have a real door and wall installed so he could comfortably live and sleep in this space.

Our volunteer, Todd, heard about this story and quickly posted a message on the Nextdoor app asking for the community’s help with installation. Within a few minutes, JohnnyKat’s Handyman Service responded, offering to do the installation at no cost if we supplied the materials. Thanks to the Hospice Charitable Fund of Central Arizona for assisting us in purchasing the materials.

This is what can happen when a community of people who care about one another and who have servant’s hearts comes together! Many thanks to each and every one of you who played a part in this patient’s “dying wish!”

Volunteer Spotlight Alert!

This is our fabulous Hospice Family Care volunteer, Todd. He’s been volunteering with us for nearly two years and has done so much for his colleagues, our patients, and their families. Todd is always willing to help in any way possible, from unloading medical supplies and preparing them for our patients to visiting any patient, no matter their situation. He consistently advocates for patients, always having their best interests at the forefront. He once visited a patient simply to vacuum for him as he could no longer do it himself. They became fast friends, with the visits turning into meaningful conversations and Todd getting to know his life story. On another occasion, we had a patient in dire need of a new door for his mobile home as the previous one had been broken off, and a board was taped up over the opening. This made the house very cold during the winter and so hot during the summer. When Todd heard about this, he quickly jumped into action, creating a social media post asking for help from our community to repair this door. Within hours we had a local handyman step up to offer the installation of a new door at no cost. This is just a small example of the good things Todd has done during his time as a hospice volunteer. This is what volunteering is all about! Giving many thanks to Todd for his caring servant’s heart!
