Today's Massage Therapy FAQ:
Do I need to get naked to get a massage?
The short answer is "No". There are many types of massage techniques that can be done through clothing. I always tell my clients to get as undressed as is comfortable. You are going to be covered except for the area that I am working on.
Licensed Massage Therapists are trained to keep you professionally draped to protect your modesty while still providing a thorough Massage Therapy treatment.
Having said that, in my opinion, you will get a better massage if you are completely undressed. The simple reason for this is that the majority of Massage Therapy techniques I use are meant to manipulate the skin, fascia, muscles, and soft tissue in general. Clothing gets in the way of this.
Wearing gym shorts makes it difficult to work the glutes (butt muscles) thoroughly. So, if you come in with lower back and/or glute pain, I can give you a much better massage if you don't wear shorts. The same goes for bras. Sometimes women prefer to leave their bra on, which is fine. However, it is much easier to thoroughly work the back and shoulders when I don't need to navigate around bra straps.
As I said earlier, you always are free to keep as much clothing on as you prefer. Most of my clients get completely undressed, and quite a few leave their underpants on. I encourage you to always undress to your own comfort level for your professional Massage Therapy session.
