APRIL SMITH (ADMINISTRATOR) April Smith has been giving and volunteering her time for over 30 years since 1978. She was born February 27, 1965 in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. The S Club (school service) at school was one of her clubs to help the communities around her. Also April was very active in High School Drill Team and worked with community shops to sponsor field trips for the drill team to Wild Life Way Station to help learn and volunteer about the wild life and natural habitats. Among other trips involving community service. She also was in French club, Spanish club, volunteered 8 yrs in a row and many times more over the years working the phone banks for the Jerry Lewis MDA on Labor Day weekend from 1979 to 1986 and again from 1992 to 1994 and lastly 2008 to 2010. April has volunteered with the city of Pasadena for over 20 years (1977 to 1997) helping to get the Rose Parade Floats ready for Parade on New Year’s Day. April is an amateur radio operator and has worked the health and welfare calls during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Volunteered for the Red Cross, works with C.E.R.T (Community Emergency Response Team) who has done search and rescue and worked at many command posts for the fires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area over the years. April works for the County of Los Angeles Welfare Department, The Department of Public Social Services for the last ten years working in the information area (First Contact for clients), reception, as a unit clerk and now as an Eligibility Worker where she helps families with and without children and homeless individuals on a daily basis. April worked 6 months with the victims of Hurricane Katrina displaced and sent to the Los Angeles area find shelter and homes. Also, over the years have volunteered and donated to Children’s Hospital of Greater Los Angeles, and has a son with developmental disabilities called Noonan’s Syndrome which has hindered his growth and learning capabilities tremendously over the years. Donations to The City of Hope for Cancer Research, St. Jude and T. J. Martel have also been April’s biggest charities over the years all because of the caring research and love for the sick and terminally ill children and their families. So, on June 25, 2009, when the world lost a true humanitarian Michael Jackson, she felt that it was only fitting to carry on the humanitarian efforts of Michael Jackson. Her love of Michael Jackson spans over 39 years and since he, like she, had an empathy for children, the sick, needy and the planet, it is a perfect solution to carry on in Michael Jackson’s honor April does it because it is not only right, but out of genuine love of everyone. This also carries on the efforts of Michael Jackson, paying tribute and honoring his legacy of love and light. Through her and the organization she has started Michael Jacksons-Charitable Legacy, Michael Jackson’s humanitarian efforts to help and heal the planet and its inhabitants will flourish and thrive. Over the last two years since Michael Jackson’s untimely and globe shocking death, April has been holding donation drives and toy drives to collect anything and everything she can to give to homeless shelters Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, MEND, Path Achieve, Salvation Army, Aids Project LA and Children’s Hospital of Greater Los Angeles all in Michael Jackson’s name. each time making sure that they realize it is to help those in need in the name of Michael Jackson. April believes that it is up to all of us to work together to create a better world. Heal the damage we all have placed on the world around us and bring love and hope to those who truly just simply need a helping hand, a loving voice, caring shoulders to help them carry their burdens and foster faith, hope and belief that someone somewhere will soon help to make a change. It starts with us; we are the ones who can make a change, so April does this to honor Michael Jackson’s humanitarian legacy and shines light and love to those in need in her community.
