Why do I want to limit your fruit intake? You may think I am out of my mind. Many people believe that fruits are inherently healthy, and they are correct to a degree. However, many Americans mistakenly lump fruits and vegetables together. The government slogan is "5 a day," meaning five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. This often gives people the impression that fruits and vegetables are interchangeable, which is not correct....

Just returned from an unforgettable trip to Japan, my first time back in 28 years! I did studied Japanese in high school and took Japanese classes in college. But sorry to say I forgot most of my Japanese. Luckily Japan is very tourist friendly nowadays. Well-preserved beautiful gardens and temples, balanced blend of industrial society and respect for nature, Japan demonstrates that high technology and cultural traditions can thrive together.

Approximately 40 individuals from across China attended the Sports Performance and Conditioning Camp. These attendees primarily consisted of former athletes transitioning into coaching, personal training, or related fields. We had one professional MMA fighter, one a municipal SWAT team coach, some gym owners, and some who are simply enthusiasts.

The Olympic training center offers a unique opportunity to dine within the same facilities as elite Olympic athletes. Access to their dedicated cafeteria requires the purchase of a ticket, priced at approximately 70 RMB (under $10 USD). This experience transcends the typical all-you-can-eat buffet, presenting a meticulously curated selection of exceptionally healthy fare.

Reflecting contemporary sports nutrition science, the offerings lean predominantly towards plant-based options, featuring an extensive and diverse array of vegetables. While the abundance of plant-forward choices is notable, the comparatively limited presence of animal-based foods within a buffet setting may initially seem unexpected.

A common misconception persists that top athletes, due to their high caloric expenditure, necessitate diets rich in high-calorie, high-protein, and consequently, animal-based foods. However, the reality is that the intense physical demands of elite training place significant stress on the athletes' bodies, potentially hindering recovery. Beyond meeting essential macronutrient and caloric needs, a scientifically optimized dietary regimen for athletes prioritizes recovery through a wealth of micronutrients, antioxidants, polyphenols, and more. This necessitates a nutritional foundation that is largely plant-based, supporting both performance and recuperation.

This Spring (2025), I went to Olympic Training Center in Beijing to learn from Olympic Gold Medalists’ coaches, trainers and therapists.

The training facility is converted from a locomotive factory to prepare Olympic athletes for the 2022 Winter Game in Beijing. It is currently managed by Beijing Sport University for educational programs open to the public. Because Beijing Sport University is responsible for training China’s Olympic Team, the instructors at the program are the most authoritative experts in China who have trained, coached and treated the world-class athletes, many of which are Olympic Gold Medalists.

WE ALL HATE VEGETABLES. Here is why: When we eat high calorie food, our brain produces pleasure chemicals. It is our body's reward mechanism to motivate us to look for enough food and calories. Vegetables are low in caloric density. When you eat low calorie food, your brain's pleasure center is not triggered as much as high calorie food does....
