Ever Heard Of Adaptogens?
Adaptogens are herbs that adapt to what the body needs, when it needs it. Adaptogens work a bit like a thermostat. When the thermostat senses that the room temperature is too high it brings it down; when the temperature is too low it brings it up. Adaptogens can calm you down and boost your energy at the same time without over stimulating. They can normalize body imbalances. By supporting adrenal function, they counteract the adverse effects of stress. They enable the body’s cells to access more energy; help cells eliminate toxic byproducts of the metabolic process and help the body to utilize oxygen more efficiently. It also a wonderful way of boosting the immune system. Which adaptogens should I use?I prefer combination adaptogenic herb formulas and the adaptogen herbs I consider most important include Asian Ginseng, Maca, Ashwaghanda and Rhodiola. They can be purchased at most health food stores. You can take these adaptogens individually or in a combination formula. When buying a formula, look for one that has at least 3 of the above adaptogens and make sure it has some Rhodiola in it. Remember to consult your health care provider before you start

A Natural Alternative to Aleve, Motrin and Tylenol -
We all know that when you are in pain or have a headache, your doctor will often advise you to take Aleve, Motrin or Tylenol. Next time try sucking on a clove. Cloves have a mild anesthetic effect as well as anti-bacterial properties. It's primary component Eugenol, functions as an anti-inflammatory substance. Because of this the oil derived from the clove is excellent for treating asthma, bronchitis, arthritis and sinus conditions. Clove oil soothes muscle aches and pains because it increases blood flow to the tissues. This is why it is one of the ingredients in Tiger Balm. Clove oil offers a powerful action against gas and bloating. It reduces gas pressure in the stomach and aids in the proper elimination of food and toxins. It also relieves the discomfort of peptic ulcers. Clove oil is also effective for nausea, hiccups, motion sickness and vomiting. If you are one of those who constantly pass gas try steeping 5 cloves in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink it when it cools and repeat two or three times daily. Clove oil is good for headaches. Apply a warm rag soaked in clove oil to the forehead or temples to help open the blood vessels and rid yourself of the headache. If you have a toothache suck a clove on the side of the sore tooth. Clove is also effective in reducing fungal infections such as athlete’s foot. It is also used to aid insomnia, memory loss, anxiety and depression. Making your own oil is easy. Simply take 1/8 cup of whole clove and cover with 1/2 cup of h**p oil. Let it sit overnight or for as long as 24 hours then strain and you are ready to go.

Don’t Ignore the TMJ -
If you have symptoms such as severe continuous headaches, earaches, hearing loss, sinus stuffiness, earaches, dizziness or jaw aches you may have a problem with your temporomandibular joint. If you put your finger in your ear and open your mouth you'll feel a joint opening. That's the temporomandibular joint or TMJ for short. Some people experience pain in the scalp and roots of the hair. Hazy vision, pain in and around the eyeballs or persistent oozing of water from the eyes may also occur. Some experience hissing, ringing or buzzing in the ears. TMJ dysfunction can lead to pain in the shoulder blades and neck. It can also lead to sore and stiff back muscles. Symptoms could also include sore throats or difficulty swallowing. Even numb fingers can sometimes be traced to TMJ dysfunction. A simple exercise is to touch the roof of the mouth with the tongue. Now open as wide as possible and inhale for two seconds. Hold the breath for another two seconds. Now exhale for two seconds. Return the tongue to it's initial position. Do this exercise ten times. A highly effective technique called Myomeningeal Manipulation balances the jaw and skull in order to properly align the TMJ.

Belly Problems? Tamarind
Who can forget eating tamarind balls as a child? Little did we know that that this fruit is chock full of healthy benefits. For those suffering from constipation, one to two tablespoons of the pulp in evening can improve bowel movements. In traditional Indian medicine it is used to alleviate gastric and digestive problems. Tamarind lowers cholesterol levels in the body and helps in promoting a healthy heart. The leaves are used for jaundice and ulcers. It is also used for reducing fevers. Make an infusion by taking one ounce of pulp, pour one quart of boiling water over this and allow to steep for one hour. Strain and drink lukewarm with a little honey to sweeten. This will bring down the temperature by several degrees. Diluted tamarind pulp is used as a gargle for sore throats. Juice extracted from tamarind flowers are used for treating piles and heated tamarind juice is traditionally used for conjunctivitis. A few words of caution are in order. Consuming tamarind increases the amount of aspirin or ibuprofen absorbed by the body and therefore, the side effects of the aspirin or ibuprofen may be manifested. If you suffer from acid reflux then tamarind because of its acidity may make your condition worse.

Potatoes, Who Knew?
Potatoes are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber. As a bonus, potatoes are low in calories, contain no fat or cholesterol, and are sodium-free. They're high in vitamin C and potassium and are a good source of vitamin B6. A medium potato, about 5.5 ounces, contains only 145 calories.
Potatoes are high in starch or carbohydrates, the nutrients that cause spikes in blood sugar. But pairing them with foods high in protein, fiber and unsaturated fats can slow digestion and lead to a steadier release of glucose into the bloodstream.

Use potatoes to clean stains. Cut a potato in half, sprinkle some salt or baking soda on the cut side, and scrub away. The potato's texture, combined with the abrasiveness of the salt or baking soda, helps lift grime without damaging surfaces.

Use a potato to cut rust. Dip a cut potato in dish soap or baking soda and rub it on the rusted area. The oxalic acid in the potato, combined with the cleaning agents, helps break down rust, leaving your metal items looking good as new.

Shine up copper or brass.
For shining up copper or brass items, create a paste using a mashed potato and a bit of water. Apply the paste to the metal, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it away with a clean cloth. The natural acids in the potato work wonders for bringing out the shine.

Use potatoes to clean glass. Cut a potato in half and gently rub it in circular motions across your glass windows and surfaces until it forms a starchy film. Then, mist water onto the glass and wipe the surface with a towel.

Make grills non stick. Before firing up the grill, cut a raw potato in half and rub it over the grates. The starch from the potato forms a thin layer that helps prevent food from sticking.

Don’t Underestimate The Guinep!
Did you know that there is a fruit that helps to lower blood pressure, boosts the immune system, helps with digestive problems, prevents urinary stones, relieves constipation, helps you to sleep and strengthens bones? The answer is the guinep. The guinep fruit helps to lower blood pressure because it contains the amino acids tryptophan and lysine. Additionally tryptophan helps to regulate sleep because it contains the hormone serotonin while L-lysine has been shown to inhibit the herpes virus. Guinep boosts the immune system by supplying vitamins A and C. Vitamin A also helps to prevent urinary stones. The pulp provides (FEY ru lik) ferulic acid which is excellent to combat constipation. Calcium strengthens bones and the guinep has lots of that. Guineps have been used traditionally to treat stomach issues and diarrhea by roasting the fruit and mixing it with honey. Guinep leaf tea is used as a remedy for constipation, inflammation in the bowels, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), pain in the stomach, peptic ulcers, infections and conditions associated with the a**s. Guinep leaf tea is made by boiling up to seven leaves in a small pot of water. Drink one cup a day until symptoms improve.

Spit Can Do That?
Saliva or spit is described as a watery liquid secreted into the mouth by glands, providing lubrication for chewing and swallowing. In reality saliva does much, much more than that. Not many people are aware that saliva contains substances that promote quick healing. We are talking about anti microbial agents (which contain antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory agents), enzymes, antibodies, growth factors and even a natural pain killer called Opiorphin. This is one of the reasons wounds in the mouth tend to heal quickly and without scarring! Some salivary proteins have been found to neutralize the HIV virus. This is why one is less likely to get the virus through kissing as opposed to having in*******se. Have you ever wondered where the the habit of kissing a child's wound to make it better came from? Experts believe that wound licking is an instinctive response in humans and many other animals to an injury. Dogs, cats, rodents and primates all lick wounds due to the immune boosting, healing promoting, and pain reducing factors attributed to saliva. Scientists have been working to isolate the parts of saliva that contribute to the healing of wounds and burns, in the hope of coming up with new drugs. And while on the subject of kissing, why is it such an important part of intimacy? It may be because saliva contains traces of testosterone. Testosterone increases the s*x drive in males and females, so when you swap spit with your partner you are in effect turning each other on even further by exchanging small amounts of testosterone.

The Thyroid and Cholesterol Connection-
What many people don't know is that a malfunctioning thyroid gland can cause high levels of cholesterol in the blood. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body's metabolism. If the thyroid gland produces too little hormone, metabolism can slow, having a direct impact on the body's ability to clear cholesterol from the bloodstream. As a result, the risk of cholesterol being deposited in the arteries, especially around the heart, is increased, thereby increasing the risk for heart disease.
Even if your thyroid is under active, and not true hypothyroidism, there can be an increase in total cholesterol levels, in addition to an impairment of your heart's ability to pump efficiently. If you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism, here are some natural supplements to improve your thyroid health and by extension your cholesterol levels.
Iodine -- You can increase your iodine intake through diet and kelp supplementation. Kelp is rich in iodine. Foods that contain iodine are yogurt, eggs, fish and other seafood, radish, parsley, potatoes, oatmeal and bananas.
Selenium is a mineral found in the soil. Many people diagnosed with hypothyroidism were found to be selenium deficient. Brazil nuts are high in selenium.
Bladderwrack -- Bladderwrack is a seaweed that is a rich source of iodine that is thought to stimulate the thyroid gland increasing metabolism.

We all hear that fish is a healthy alternative to red meat. The problem is, not all fish are healthy fish. Let's look at tilapia for example. Farm-raised tilapia, one of the most highly consumed fish in America, has very low levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and, perhaps worse, very high levels of omega-6 fatty acids. This combination could spell disaster for people with heart disease, arthritis, asthma and other allergic and auto-immune diseases that are particularly vulnerable to an "exaggerated inflammatory response". Inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lungs, joint tissues, skin, and the digestive tract. Tilapia has higher levels of potentially detrimental long-chain omega-6 fatty acids than 80-percent-lean hamburger, doughnuts and even pork bacon! Fish farmers determine tilapia's gender by feeding them on specific hormones. These hormones are absorbed by humans when they dine on this inexpensive meal. Let us not forget that we also absorb the antibiotics administered to the fish. In many cases tilapia's source of protein is untreated chicken or pig manure. If the chicken or pig is infected with salmonella, they pass it on to the fish through their f***s. The fish can then pass this gift unto you.

Hot Flashes -
Hot flashes are regarded as a deficiency of estrogen and can be triggered by a variety of stimulants such as: spicy food(such as cayenne, ginger, pepper); acidic foods(such as pickles, citrus, tomatoes); hot drinks; caffeine (coffee, black tea, cola, chocolate); alcoholic drinks (including wine and beer); white sugar; hydrogenated or saturated fats (found in meat and margarine for example); stress; hot weather; hot tubs and saunas; to***co or ma*****na; intense exercise; anger (especially if unexpressed). Herbal remedies for hot flashes include plants that cool the body such as chickweed, elder and violet; plants that nourish or increase oxygen utilization in the liver, such as d**g quai, dandelion, ho shou wu (polygonum multiflorum) and yellow dock; and plants rich in plant sterols, such as black cohosh. Hot flashes deplete the body of vitamin B and C, as well as magnesium and potassium. Fresh coconut water is an excellent source of these minerals and vitamins. This recipe works for many women: mix 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar with a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 6 oz of warm water. Drink morning and evening.
