Dr. Kimberlee Coleman of Obstetrics and Gynecology of South Florida, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, joined to share guidance on how to begin the first period talk and key topics to cover ➡️ https://hubs.li/Q04gN09M0.

If your newborn slept peacefully the first night but is suddenly wide awake and fussy the second, you may be experiencing “second night syndrome.” This informal term describes when babies become more restless 24-48 hours after birth, most often because they’re hungry. It can feel overwhelming, but it's temporary and usually resolves quickly.

Dr. Robert Quillin of Pediatrix Newborn Services of Texas joined to explain what second night syndrome is, why it happens and practical ways to cope ➡️ https://hubs.li/Q04dPq-g0.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about mental health conditions, reduce stigma and support access to care and resources that promote overall well-being.

According to the CDC, recent data shows that more than 1 in 5 U.S. adults report symptoms of anxiety and depression, while nearly 1 in 5 children ages 3-17 have been diagnosed with a mental, emotional or behavioral condition, highlighting how early mental health challenges can begin. These statistics reinforce the ongoing need for accessible mental health support and services.

This month is an opportunity to de-stigmatize conversations around mental health, recognize the importance of emotional well-being in daily life and support environments where individuals feel comfortable seeking care and resources when needed. Taking a moment to listen or offer support can go a long way in helping others feel seen and understood, and sometimes the most meaningful support is simply being present and taking the time to check in.

Dr. Jenelle Ferry of Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida recently joined to share what parents need to know about cluster feeding – when it typically starts, how long it might last, practical strategies to cope and when to contact your pediatrician ➡️ https://hubs.li/Q04fgHXd0.

May marks Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, a time to recognize the histories, cultures and contributions of communities that have helped shape the United States, including health care, science and public service.

The Federal Asian Pacific American Council has designated the 2026 theme as “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together,” highlighting the importance of leveraging collective strength, sharing stories and building bridges across communities.

This month, let’s take the opportunity to learn more about the communities we serve and work alongside, recognize the contributions of AANHPI colleagues and reflect on the importance of understanding and respect in delivering thoughtful, patient-centered care.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association designates each May as Better Hearing and Speech Month to raise awareness about communication disorders. CDC data have shown that one to three of every 1,000 newborns in the United States face some form of hearing deficiency. Intervention starts with early detection. We’re proud to be the largest provider of newborn hearing screening services in the U.S. To all our hearing screen colleagues, thank you for the important work you do to Take great care of the patient.®
