When caregivers become patients, the journey is both humbling and inspiring.

In 2023, NNPs Lisa Flowers and Sarah Turnbull at Pediatrix® Neonatology of New Mexico found themselves switching roles – from dedicated NICU nurses to NICU moms – after each gave birth to micropreemies just two months apart. Their babies spent months in the NICU, and today, they’re thriving and celebrating milestones with the team that cared for them.

Lisa and Sarah’s experiences deepened their empathy and transformed how they support families, reminding us of the vital work NICU teams do every day. Their stories are a testament to resilience, teamwork and the lifelong bonds formed in the NICU.

We celebrate their strength, the support of their colleagues and the leadership that guided them through the toughest days. Their journey is a powerful reminder: behind every NICU success story is a team that cares deeply – sometimes for their own. 💜
