Emotional dysregulation is a recent term used to describe an emotional component of ADHD. Per research quoted in ADDitude magazine (8/2023), emotional dysregulation is the inability to inhibit inappropriate behavior triggered by strong emotions, to self-soothe, refocus, and substitute more moderate emotional responses.
