New research from the American Heart Association suggests that higher exposure to artificial light at night may be linked to increased cardiovascular risk. People exposed to more nighttime light showed signs of elevated brain stress activity and arterial inflammation, two pathways connected to heart disease.

A recent study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2025 found that adults with Type 2 diabetes and moderate to high cardiovascular risk who took low-dose aspirin experienced fewer heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular deaths compared to those who did not.

While these findings are encouraging, aspirin therapy is not right for everyone. The potential benefits must be carefully weighed against bleeding risks, making it essential to discuss with your physician before starting or changing any regimen.

Last weekend, Peak Heart & Vascular was proud to participate in the Tolleson Community Resource Fair, a day dedicated to connection, sharing, and community spirit.

Hosted by the City of Tolleson, the event brought together local organizations to provide valuable resources and support for the community.

Our team provided free blood pressure screenings and discussed important aspects of cardiovascular care, including how to recognize and manage risk factors. We appreciate everyone who joined us to gain a better understanding of their health and the importance of regular screening.

We’re honored to expand our vascular care team with the addition of Dr. Adam Calarese!

As a board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Calarese specializes in the surgical and endovascular management of arterial and venous disease, with expertise in the treatment of aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, limb salvage, and venous disorders.

We are proud to share that Stephen Smith, MD, Founding Partner and Vascular Surgeon at Peak Heart & Vascular, and Program Director at Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, is the first physician in Arizona to implant the Cook Medical Zenith® Iliac Branch Device (ZBIS), a breakthrough endovascular solution for treating iliac artery aneurysms.

This procedure, performed at Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, is not only a first for the state but also among the first ZBIS implants in the country. The device is designed to preserve blood flow while improving outcomes for patients with complex vascular conditions.
