Hey, hang with us for a second while we tell you about dead hangs!
Dead hangs are one of the simplest ways to build stronger shoulders, better posture, and serious grip strength - alllll things that matter more as we age.
✔️ Shoulder strength: Supports healthy, stable joints and reduces injury risk
✔️ Posture: Helps counteract hours of sitting and rounded shoulders
✔️ Grip strength: A proven marker linked to overall health and longevity
Just hanging from a bar for 20–60 seconds at a time can go a long way toward keeping your body strong, mobile, and resilient for years to come.
Your future shoulders will thank you. 💪

1️⃣ Exercise, 3️⃣ Ways!
If you’ve been following our recent posts, you know we talked about hip hinge cues last week. Now we’re building on that foundation.
Because a good deadlift isn’t just about lifting heavy in the gym! It’s about learning how to use your hips correctly for everyday movement. Think picking up a laundry basket, grabbing a box off the floor, or lifting that Amazon package from the porch.
Here’s how we might progress the hinge pattern in the clinic:
👉 Platform deadlift
Elevating the weight helps reinforce proper hip-dominant mechanics so you can practice hinging without rounding your back or compensating.
👉 Kettlebell swings
Once the pattern is solid, we add speed. Swings turn hip strength into explosive hip extension, training your glutes to generate power while protecting your back.
👉 Broad jumps
Now we apply the hinge to athletic movement, translating that hip power into jumping, landing, and full-body coordination.
Why it matters: strong, well-coordinated hips help protect your spine, improve lifting mechanics, and make everyday tasks safer and easier. If deadlifts bother your back or just never feel quite right, it might be a movement pattern issue — and that’s exactly what PTs are trained to fix!

Types of Patients In an Outpatient PT Clinic...Part 4️⃣
First up:
👉 The Homework “Do-er.”
We ask how the home exercises went.
You say, “Good!”
We smile. You smile.
Somewhere deep down… we both know there’s room for improvement 👀
Then there’s:
👉 The Life Story Sharer.
We start with, “How’s the knee feeling?”
And suddenly we’re on chapter seven of a very detailed life update.
Listen… we are therapists after all. We love a good yap.
And of course:
👉 The Calculator.
You confidently lock eyes with us and say, “That’s 10.”
We gently reply, “That was 4.”
The commitment to the bit? Impeccable.
All jokes aside, these personalities are what make clinic days fun. The reps, the stories, the side-eyes… it’s all part of it.
Tag yourself. Or don’t. We probably already know 😌

When it comes to physical therapy, pain relief is really just the *first* step. It's like your body's check engine light: something's going on under the hood that triggered it in the first place.
If we just stop there, we haven't actually fixed the root cause of what caused the pain... which means it's more likely to come back and keep preventing you from doing what you love.
Those weeks you keep coming even after the pain is gone - they rebuild your strength, stability, and movement so the problem doesn't return.
Are you ready to get out of pain and feel even better than before? Message us or text/call (508) 861-1010 to get started! We accept most major insurances and have same-day & next-day evaluation spots available across multiple locations in Central MA, so you're not stuck waiting 4 weeks or more. ❌

Knee pain going downstairs? Feeling wobbly on one leg? Your hips might actually be the problem 👀 Sounds crazy, right? Not so much...keep reading!
Curtsy lunges are a powerhouse for building lateral hip strength, which helps prevent knees from caving in, improves balance, and takes pressure off your hips and low back during everyday movement.
Here’s how we might progress them in the clinic:
👉 Shuttle curtsy: reduces balance demand so you can focus on controlled movement and building side-to-side hip strength.
👉 Standing hip abduction: isolates the muscles that keep your pelvis stable (huge for knee and low back support).
👉 Off-step curtsy: increases muscle demand and challenges single-leg control for next-level strength and stability.
Why does lateral hip strength matter? It can help you walk, run, climb stairs, and exercise with better control, in turn reducing injury risk and helping your body move more efficiently.
If you're struggling with hip pain, knee discomfort, or balance: book an evaluation with a licensed Doctor of PT at one of our 5 locations! We have same-day & next-day appointments available at multiple locations across Central MA/MetroWest.

A “breakthrough” in therapy is more about moments of compounding awareness, rather than a finish line.
In this episode of Hooked on Health hosted by Concierge PT owner & CEO Dr. Sean Lordan, DPT, licensed mental health counselor Mark Labb explains that real progress happens when someone recognizes a pattern, understands what’s holding them back, and takes ownership of change.
That idea applies far beyond mental health.
In physical therapy, breakthroughs often look the same:
✔ realizing a movement habit is contributing to pain
✔ noticing progress you didn’t think was possible
✔ building confidence in your body again
✔ taking ownership of your recovery
Whether it’s mindset or movement, growth starts with awareness and small breakthroughs create lasting change.
🎧 Watch the full episode on the Concierge Physical Therapy YouTube channel to learn how mental and physical health progress often follow the same path. Also available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and conciergephysicaltherapy.com/podcast.

If you are dealing with persistent aches, recovering from an injury, or trying to stay strong as you age, vitamin D might come up in conversation. Many people think of it as an “immune vitamin” or something related only to bone health.
