Friday Introductions
my name is Jaclyn i was named after Jaclyn Smith from the original Charlie's Angel tv show
if I could drink coffee all day i would - iced with a little almond milk and a splash of vanilla creamer - but that's frowned upon so I drink water all day
I tend to tear up at almost anything - a feel good story about a dog rescue, a rousing speech made to inspire, or even a feel good story from a baking show
Those are just a few things about me ... but right now I am a doula in training and waiting patiently to get three births under my belt to get my certification and then I have big plans!

They say that the person going through the labor and birth organically come up with mantras. Or some have things in mind they want to help them through contractions or through those times that they are tired and need a little extra help. But I have been trying to find a few to keep in my back pocket just in case.

This is the Peanut Ball. Similar to the yoga ball that has been used during labor and birth for quite some time. But the peanut ball is a bit newer. The shape makes it a little more versatile, especially if you want to side labor. It is one of the first things I acquired for my doula bag. I am ready to assist you!!!

Let me tell the story about how Acorn Doula Services was born.
I had finished my training and I knew I needed to get my name out there. I needed to let people know that I was ready to be a doula.
My sisters get full credit for the name. They said I should use acorn in the name.
When I heard it, was like the missing puzzle peice falling into place.
Now why would I use acorn in my doula service name?
The definition of acorn is the fruit of an oak tree.
The definition of birth is the start of life as a physically separate being.
As the acorn falls from the oak to become a new oak tree, so does the baby emerge from the birth person to become a new person.

I have a connection to the word acorn as well, my last name Eikey, means little oak. How did that little oak start? One tiny little acorn.

It is a full circle moment. It just works.

Doula's are given some basic ideas of what to bring when we are in training but over time we discover new things to add. Each birth person has a different experience and as much as a doula brings to the birth experience we learn just as much from each experience. I cannot wait to pullout that one item from my doula bag that you really need in that moment!
