Neurodiverse Couple Therapy: A Practical Guide to Brain-Informed Care

God breathed this into existence during the past few intensely challenging years of my life.

Here’s to making respect and inclusion of all neurotypes a core competency within the mental health field and beyond. Books are available in hard copy at Routledge.com, Amazon, etc and also in ebook format on VitalSource (Bookshelf, OpenStax, etc).

2022 is looking bright! Allow me to announce Love All the Brains, LLC as a new, 100% online therapy practice for Georgia residents.

I'm honored to partner with neurodivergent individuals and couples towards health and growth! (Of course, you don't have to have a colorful brain to be my therapy client.)

I have a special heart for self-diagnosed adults or adults who are newly diagnosed with ADHD or Autism. It's a joy to help people explore the relationship they have with their own brain, and how this plays a key role in their self-concept and interpersonal patterns.

I also love to work with premarital couples where one is neurodivergent and the other is neurotypical!

***Please note, I don't work with children. But, I'm more than happy to work with parents of children with brain differences.***

Taking time away from social media was one of my healthiest choices in 2020 and early 2021. (I’m glad I made the choice to grow out my hair, too. It’s a fun, hot mess these days.)
So many things to say now!
🧠Never stop advocating and using your voice! Look out for my first published article promoting neurodivergent identity formation in Family Therapy Magazine, a publication of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. More on this to come — it’s been a true God thing!
🧠My neurodivergent identity workbook project had to go on hold last year as I made huge life shifts last year towards homeschooling and virtual counseling. That project is back ON now and I’m about to go full speed ahead!
🧠New website launch coming soon!

Dash the Dragon and I are available for speaking engagements. (The talk I just gave was about brains, which is why I brought out my beloved reptile...to highlight reptile vs human brains.)
Thanks be to God who gives me the strength and platform to promote a better world through self-awareness. I’m committed to my calling WITHOUT SHAME FOR HOW I WAS CREATED AND WHAT LIFE EXPERIENCES HAVE SHAPED ME.
I’m an unapologetic lizard lover, an ADDer, someone who struggles with episodes of depression and anxiety, and much more.
God used me today in all my brokenness and weirdness. He helps me show up in powerful ways for my clients. He can do the same for you.
Love your brain. Embrace your weird. Acknowledge the challenges. Get help from a professional if you need it.

Homeschool creativity with sight words today! Each brain learns differently. My young daughter needs constant movement, visuals, and fun.
I hid her sight words under Snow White’s friends and had her turn them over one by one, saying the word out loud as they would say it. She had the most fun with Sleepy and Grumpy!
How are you loving your child’s brain today?

Your common s*x questions, answered!
🥰Yes, before I focused on neurodiversity my focus was Christian S*x Therapy! Now I get to use all that knowledge to help neurodiverse couples in this area. Win!

Two different worlds. 🦎
Mutual curiosity. 🐿
A budding friendship?
I think the world could use a little more of this mutual curiosity right now, don’t you think?

Ahh, the promise of a fresh start.
Moms (and dads) are heavily burdened right now in so many areas.
😷Is it safe to return to ________?
😷Is a mask needed for _______?
😷How do I explain _______ to my kids?
😷What will school look like in the fall?
So many questions, so many unknowns. It’s ok to be tired! We are all longing for a fresh start to 2020 at this point...
We can’t go backwards, only forward. Every day can be a fresh start if we allow it! It may take a few tries to have necessary, tough conversations with your kids about the realities of life right now. And maybe some serious talks with your partner about how to make family life smoother. Those talks are tough but worth having.
Today the kids and I mapped out what we hope becomes a beautiful butterfly garden. Something about the fresh, new, potential of this bare patch of earth spoke to me today. My soul craves the freshness of dirt and flowers, and I needed a project to control. We’ll see how this project turns out!

Some beach trips I find none of these. Most trips I find only one or two...
🕊 Do you know what they are?
If you do, you may agree that it’s no coincidence I’ve collected so many of these all of a sudden on this particular beach trip in this particular time in U.S. history.
Found in the innermost part of a dried up sand dollar, these perfect little pieces are said to resemble the Holy Spirit Dove. They symbolize peace.
In times of distress, how do you seek inner peace? For some brains this is more challenging than others. Go easy on yourself (and others) as you’re out there being a world changer promoting justice and peace in a broken world.

In case you were wondering, this is the proper way to eat M&Ms according to my child!
The need for order and structure is different for everyone. A wonderful way to show love is to get curious about what those needs are, and then respect them. Especially for our kids.
