Why would you come to a free community group Labyrinth Walk, especially in a space where you can go anytime from dusk to dawn on your own?
First off, it can be a completely different experience each time by yourself or in comparing a walk on your own vs a group walk, & even each group walk is different.
Here's part 1 of some things I've heard over the years:
Shared Energy / Collective Presence
Even in silence, walking among others creates a field of attention & intention. People often feel held, supported, or inspired simply by being with others, even strangers, doing the same practice. Religious, spiritual, or somewhere in between the labyrinth space doesn't care. It's still a beautiful, shared experience, just like life.
Guidance & Structure
A guided walk provides prompts, pauses, & reflection points you might not do on your own. This helps deepen the experience & opens new ways of noticing the labyrinth & yourself. My role as a facilitator is to provide prompts & a framework you can choose to use, or it may trigger a different prompt for yourself.
Threshold Framing (new this year)
Themed walks (like March's Awakening Path) turn an ordinary walk into a ritualized threshold experience. It’s easier to feel a sense of crossing, transformation, or reflection with intention set by a facilitator. We need more conscious moments of rites-of-passage in general in our busy modern lives.
Community / Belonging
Walking with others can be a subtle but real difference. People often notice that being seen & moving with a group, even in the silence, adds richness & resonance to the experience. Watching people walk it quietly is beautiful. Even if you can't physically walk it yourself there is a reflective, meditative experience you can have for yourself in just observing what’s happening as others walk the labyrinth. You are still part of the community.
The next community walk is March 21st at 6 pm at St. Francis by the Sea.
Hope to see you at the labyrinth and stay tuned for Part 2 on the group facilitated walks.
